Just tested this on mine and I can’t reproduce the issue, everything seems to work like it should.
I checked and mine is fine as well. I’m also on the latest OS.
Thanks Guys,
Weirdly, turned it on this morning and I can’t reproduce it.
Likely a weird button combination I may have pressed and found a software glitch, but I don’t think I need to return it.
Out of interest… the supplied mic does seem a bit meh.
Would I be best buying another?
What is best for general use, dynamic or condenser?
Haven’t much experience with mics, but thought it would be fun experimenting
The 6.3mm mic input is for dynamic mics and the 3.5mm is 5V only so very limited in terms of mic selection. Condenser mics need power, usually 48V.
It definatley a me problem
Just wondering if some people have thoughts on the difference compared to the OG. I know Loopop video but i am still missing a kind of statement where the new version sits in terms of sound shaping possibilities as well as quality of sound (more important) compared to the original Microkorg. Do we get a completely different sound character or do we get all the OG sound possibilities „plus more?“
Totally different sound engine
does that mean that one cannot make those beautiful sounds as on the OG? Or just that you have to do them all „another way“ and over time we wilm have the same patch banks created for the Microkorg 2 as we had for the OG?
I can’t really help you there, but to be honest I’m not a big fan of the OG. It was my first synth back in the day and making patches on it was a PITA for me. The new one is MUCH easier to program and get good sounds for me, but YMMV.
alright, many thanks for your feedback
Here’s a demo video with a focus on Ambient, Electronica and Melodic Techno. Maybe you find it useful
I’ve tried recreating (or approximating, really, as I’ve never owned the original) a small handful of Micorkorg 1 and MS2000 patches on the MK2 - mostly ones used in the Metroid Prime soundtrack. There’s a definite difference. Not better or worse, just different. You won’t quite get that distinctly lofi 2000s VA feeling out of the MK2 without a bit of extra work, and maybe not at all in some cases if you’re looking for an exact match. As has been stated, it’s a completely different sound engine.
This doesn’t particularly bother me but it’s worth knowing.
Kind of surprised that this isn’t getting more love.
I’ve tried the Hydrasynth Explorer (amazing, but too harsh, very fatiguing) and the Minifreak (fun enough but shallow, and the sonics weren’t doing it for me), and based on the demos I’ve heard this seems to sound better? Less deep than the Hydrasynth and less “fun” than the Minifreak, but the filters and FX sound great, and the cross-mod with the PCM waveforms seems to be no slouch sound-design wise.
Might pull the trigger on this to see if it’s the couch synth I’ve been looking for.
I would not agree that the MiniFreak is shallow, but to each their own. I’m curious if the microKorg 2 got overshadowed by the Multi/Poly. I know I was hyped to get the 2, but by the time it was available the GAS ran out. In fact I’m pulling out my OG right now to try and get myself to use it more.
Typical Korg, hehe. Architecture-wise - a bit conservative, but damn it sounds good (applies to almost everything, except the latest 'waves)
It’s a really fun synth and super easy to use. I haven’t been messing around with my synths or samplers that much lately, but pulled this out with headphones the other night and got some great sounds out of it.
The effects sound great. I just wish you could use two of the mod effects at the same time because there’s so much great stuff in there that stacking them would take it to the next level.
Same. Being able to replace the reverb slot with a mod effect would be incredible.
I went to a synth store and the two synths that stood out to me where the hydrasynth and microKORG 2. The build quality on both seems remarkable. Korg seemed much more fun and intuitive
i imagine not, but does the OS include the option to add 3rd party custom plugin modules?
