Korg Arp 2600M

First off, your Initial Gain slider full to the left?

yes all the way

This is through the speakers? How about the line outputs?

actually this is through the line outputs, just tested through the speakers and its as it should be, no sound! why would it be coming out of the line out tho?

I’m not sure. My first suspicion is that the VCA is slightly out of calibration, but that doesn’t make much sense in this context. Is the sequence I hear being produced via MIDI over USB or the five-pin connector? Or do you have a USB sequencer patched into the USB host port? Have you tried using another MIDI input method? Can you try CV/Gate?

What happens if you unplug the input device without changing the settings? A steady tone?

Also, I assume you’re using the line outputs in the side of the unit. What happens if you use the outputs in the upper-right of the front panel?

it’s being produced over midi via my keystep - i’ve tried cv as well same deal! when i unplug the input device i’m getting a steady tone and can still hear it using the outputs on the upper right. i’m so puzzled

i can’t tell if there’s always some bleed? and my mixer is just amplifying it? but i would expect it to be completely closed except for maybe some low noise or something, but this is a bit wild

Is it all oscillators? Can you tweak the pitch of each one-by-one to see if all of them are bleeding through?

yeah its all of them

Also, have you tried doing a factory reset as shown on page 23 in the manual?

let me give this a try

That sure seems like the VCA is out of calibration or the Initial Gain slider isn’t working quite right.

did you open a support ticket with Korg on this issue?

just about to as i’ve exhausted all other options

this worries me as I would love a full size ARP 2600 next year but not if there are quality control issues at Korg.

That’s the next logical step. Oscillator bleed is not uncommon in old synths and can often be easily fixed, but you shouldn’t be experiencing it in a brand new unit.

I’ve had two (a prototype for review back in 2019, and one of the units released last May) and neither have had issues. However, I have seen a very few of complaints online. For what it’s worth, it’s a lovely instrument and (to my mind) easily worth the asking price.

glad to hear that since for 12k new list you would expect perfection and nirvana for the full size version of the Korg ARP 2600! I see them heavily discounted now and will see next year. That and a few other synths on the wish list like Buchla Music Easel and Analogue Solutions Ample or Erica Synths Syntrx II look fun.

They were a lot less than that… that’s what you might have to pay for a nice vintage 2600. The Korgs were $4500 last time around. A bit more than the first batch and still a sizable amount, though.
