(i’m tempted to tag him but don’t want to bother him)
Anyway, it seems he leaves his gear all plugged in and ready to go in this road case, which is what I’m leaning toward doing. Setting up and tearing down my stuff for band practice is becoming a pain in the ass as I accrue more cables and connections, and I also carry most of it in a suitcase with lots of cushioning. If I had a case like this and I just popped it open that’d be nice.
Does anyone have experience with this sort of stuff? Anyone have recommendations on what to buy? Will everything be traveling safely and not bumping into each other/causing scratches or unwanted pressure on my knobs/encoders? I imagine it’s expensive but I hope not prohibitively so…I would want something that can hold Rytm Mk 1, OT Mk 1, DN and a Yamaha mg10xu mixer. Keeping them all plugged into power (which it looks like dave does) would be pretty cool, too.
Sweet thanks! I don’t think my setup will be quite as snug as his? So maybe I can get away with not buying those fancy cables that are a bit pricey. I would like some short, angled quarter inch anyway though. We’ll see.
Hi, thanks for the mention. Bothered enough to chime in (no, really, love talking about this stuff so by all means tag me).
I actually was about to release a video today of a new sort of case I came up with but caught something (not Corona luckily) so had to postpone it until next week as I have to still record the outro which i rather do without looking like Rudolf. Bit much to write up here ao I’ll just leave it up to the video to explain it. Expect to upload it next Sunday and will post it here on the forum as well
Ps. I think gorilla cases stopped being available at all?
Cool man thanks for the response! I have a show Saturday and was hoping to make the plunge before then, but getting it all sorted out after then seems alright too. It’s really the setup and teardown of practice every week that’s driving me a bit crazy. Do you think your new setup you got going on (any leads on products i can check out?) will fit my OT, AR, DN and Yamaha mixer nicely?
Is it possible to get the sound from the first video as a download? (> 192 kbps)
It’s great and just the right companion for stupid work
Nice box. Great job and very inspiring.
Do you have a source for the short chinch cables behind the mixer?
I have been thinking about this a lot lately also, even talked to some builders but ultimately I think I am going to have to make something myself for my needs… thinking I am basically try to 19" rack everything but make the case shallow have a lid that latches on and use various custom racking solutions for gear. Really kind of annoying that almost all 19" rack cases are for pizza depth products of yore.
The small RCA cables I got from AliExpress. If you search for RCA cable there you’ll see loads of them with those tiny plugs. Don’t remember the exact ones but the cables are thick , very solidly build and pretty cheap. Never head any problems them and used them a lot.
I just ordered this one. I have a flightcase from that company, pretty good quality. This one is very light, lid comes off and enough space for two mk1s next to each other.
Don´t you have to keep everything pretty snug, because you don´t want gravity pulling on your cables etc.? I´ve never put such a portable setup together, but I imagine any space left for cables, psus etc. to move will eventually cause problems?
I thought about that aswell, a multiple case setup with fixed plugs on the side would be an intresting build. (3 cases) ideally with a multi DC PSU capable powering multiple boxes. Trolly compatible would be ideal.
I‘ve seen a guy with three cases, each case had a stagebox inside, everything already connected to the stagebox, multicore pins on the other side and power socket and multicore were fitted nicely in the cases.
He only plugged power and multicore into each case and was basically ready to go.
He had a mix of grooveboxes, synths and modular, modular was also transported already patched.
I have some esoteric voltage needs, 19 Volt mpc, 15 Volt Tempest, 13.5 Volt for p12, Octatrack 6.5 volt , ideal would be a lightweight 10 ampere dc psu, with 6 Output channels
I already thought about exchanging my OT mk1 for an mk2 which works on 12v dc, same as A4 mk1/mk2, AR mk1/mk2, Analog Heat, Analog Drive, Digitakt, Digitone/Keys - This would make things much easier for me, but you got a pretty nice mix of esotoric voltages there…
I don’t understand the point of a power supply? I’ll probably just use the PSU’s that came with my units and have them all plugged into a power strip ready to be plugged into a wall outlet.
If you’re comfortable with electronics, getting e.g. a Meanwell 24V power supply and then a set of voltage converters wouldn’t be that hard to do… Bonus points for putting an IP67 powertwist socket through the case for you AC input, and I guess also powertwist output if you’re chaining multiple cases.
I’ve done an intermediate step with my current setup — still using factory power supplies, but wired up into a much less bulky setup with AC splitters instead of embedding a power strip. Still getting it back together, but this gives you an idea — all fed from one IEC input.
