Kaleidoscope by Vadik Minkin

Kaleidoscope is a generative synthesizer and a digital laboratory for sound exploration. Despite this, if you do not go into the territory of generative synthesis, Kaleidoscope can be used as a classic general-purpose synthesizer for creating a wide palette of timbres. From drums and percussion, through basses, leads and pads, to noises and endless drones.

The concept of the device is to give the user

  • a powerful, but not overloaded with details set of modules

  • the ability to connect modules with each other flexibly and intricately

  • a uniform and intuitive control interface

  • a compact form factor that allows you to use the instrument anywhere

Kaleidoscope is 4 digital synthesizers in one case.

All tracks have the same architecture.

The architecture is so flexible that it allows you to work with different types of synthesis: subtractive, additive, fm and physical modeling.

The power of the device is not in the number of modules or their internal complexity. The emphasis is on interaction - track envelopes and modulators can modulate each other and communicate. You can create parametric cross-modulations, side-chains, and advanced FM synthesis to achieve something completely unpredictable while maintaining control over every step.

Kaleidoscope is powered by USB, has a MIDI input and MIDI output. It has 4 mono audio outputs, to which you can output various combinations of tracks or simply output a multitrack.

Oh Vlad, always up to some good. Never change. So this is feeling like a Preen meets Lyra. I could be off base but I’m not sure I want to be, that would be an awesome combo; two great tastes that go great together. Watching, as with any new SOMA joint.

Interesting. Has a Elektronesque work flow and some knarly transients. Color me interested.

Eager to try one in person! As for what I’ve read from the YT comment section, they’re planning to release it in 2024 for 500/600 euros.

Is that an official SOMA? Is doesn’t look at all on the line the instruments they usually release…

Looks 100% like the Ornament 8,(same designer I think) Metaconformer ect. I wonder if its going to have an open coding side to it?
