JoMoX Alpha Base Analog Drum Synthesizer

Thanks so much for that detailed reply. Can I ask you one more question? The manual says in order to sync delay to internal BPM you must activate click sync in the Midi menu. I’ve activated clock sync, but when I adjust DTime value below <12> I’m not seeing an ‘S’ prefix on the delay times and thus am not synced to BPM. Do you know what the trick is to getting it synced to the BPM?

To sync the

delay to the internal BPM, you need to ensure the unit starts its sequence from the very beginning of the pattern. A common user experience is that the delay values do not display the “S” prefix and sync correctly if the sequencer is started from a point other than the first step.

The Trick to Getting the Delay Synced

The issue likely stems from the internal sequencer’s current position when playback begins.

  • Ensure a proper start: When using the internal sequencer, make sure the pattern starts playing from the first step (the “1” of the bar). The sync relies on an aligned downbeat. If the Alpha Base continues from where it last stopped, the clock alignment for the delay may be off.
  • Use the Reset function (if available on your master device): If you are using an external device to send a transport start message, ensure that device sends a reset/start message that forces the Alpha Base to the beginning of the pattern.
  • Check for Firmware Updates: Ensure your Alpha Base is running the latest OS, as updates have addressed various sync and MIDI-related issues in the past. The relevant manual update notes explicitly state that values below <012> should show the “S” prefix when clock sync is active.

Confirmation of Sync

When the sync is working correctly, adjusting the DTime value in Delay Edit Mode to values below <012> will display with an “S” prefix (e.g., S01, S02, S04), indicating specific BPM divisions:

  • S01 = ¼ note
  • S02 = 1/8 note
  • S03 = 1/8 triplets
  • S04 = 1/16 note
  • S06 = 1/16 triplets
  • …and so on.

If you are not seeing the “S” prefix after confirming you are in the Delay Edit Mode and have activated clock sync in the MIDI menu, the most probable cause is the sequencer start position alignment.

Hmm, no luck. I’ve verified that the sequencer is starting on the first step. To be honest, I can’t make it start on any other step besides the first step. Maybe there is some other combination of settings that you must have along with Clock Sync turned on? I don’t know. Frustrating. But thanks for trying!

Okay, I found the settings with the “S” prefix! Instead of on the low end of values like it says in the manual, it’s on the high end, after 127. All is well.

I really appreciate you taking the time to help me on this on, @sacguy71 !

This is a good example of the mysterious relationship Jurgen has with the user interface.

Thank you for listening  These tracks are mainly build up out of DFAM sounds though, combination of direct from the machine and sampled sounds from it. I’m currently preparing some stuff that is more going in this direction again

The Jomox has weird and dramatic sweet spots in places you wouldn’t expect. Sometimes just increasing or decreasing it’s values by just 1 makes a world of difference. Even more so if it is in combination with other small changes. You would totally miss this if you turn the knobs too fast. Patience is key here. In my opinion this is not the machine for wild big knob sweeps. My advice would be , take even more time , do it slowly , and you’ll discover it’s soul.

Also there’s the acceleration mode that can be turned on and off on the mk2
By pressing the encoder 15 iirc

I reworded it and tried to help. If you don’t want my help then I will not offer it

it was from search online documentation buddy

It still reads like the kind of reply the linked topic expresses concerns about.

It’s best to avoid such regurgitated replies because they just get re-eat and will reinforce any issues without advancing understanding

people are right to express reservations, this is why we are politely asking for people to avoid this …

Hi,
Did someone have the 300 factory samples list with the number of each ?
I read there is 42 samples for each sample based instrument. So the 42 first one should be closed hi Hats, then 42 open hi Hats and so on but it is not the case on my mk1.
The first thing I did when I received was a Factory reset but the samples are randomly mixed.

Thanks

Not mine. Found it on the net

P.s. mine mk2 has only 250 samples

Thanks ! I just checked and my samples don’t correspond to the list order

I did the 9.9 operation (in the mk1 manual) and it worked as expected. Samples are in order like on the list you provided
I lost my work as I didn’t dump my kits and my patterns but it’s ok.

In my Mk2, all the samples are mixed up too.
But that’s okay, since I don’t like some of the samples and I’m currently putting together my own library. Once that’s finished, all the factory samples will be overwritten.
I have about 4000 drum samples on my hard drive; listening to them all and choosing the best ones will probably take until next year. :face_with_spiral_eyes:

I saw in some Alpha Base Mk2 videos on YouTube that the Mk2 seems to have something like a screen saver. My unit never enters that mode when it’s left idle. Is there an option to enable that mode? I can’t find anything about it in the manual.
