NB: it’s better to create a private server and make your sessions are loaded from both sides with every VST and Hardware Gears you need before to sync your online session. But both sides need computer. (for now)

The sync happen the dj way by ears with metronome and the Ableton Live nudge functionality - but when sync is tight it doesn’t drift away too fast… (if sessions are loaded from both sides with every VST and Hardware Gears you need before to sync your online session)

For hardware you will have to drift sync the old school way… (I don’t know how a clock box like E-RM Multiclock could help here maybe it would… by removing this step…)

There’s a time where OHM Force release OHM Studio it was kind of the same idea and I was very interested by it.
While the dream started in 1999, the code started in 2007 and the release of Ohm Studio happened in 2013
I guess a web server with sync is cool… for jamming sure not best for production and polished track into the daw. Maybe we need notes, chat or audio to speaking together or something like that…
I used this a few weeks ago and it worked very well. But we didn’t use any synchronization since except for me the others were instrumentalist and we just jammed together and exchanged stems afterwords for a proper mix. Connection was solid and latency wasn’t a problem.
It’s not techno with a midi clock but during the pandemic I reconnected with my highschool rock band and we jam using a private jamulus server. Software is free, Https://jamulus.io
More and more plugins to collaborate on a piece of music by internet, a lot of forum topics where we post bits of pieces. Is there anyone who has created a site for people to post their bits and pieces and has other people online who likes the basic idea of working together to finish this original idea ?

Bumping this old thread because I’ve had a few jam sessions on Jamtaba lately and it’s awesome — anybody else out there using it?
If you’re not familiar, Jamtaba lets you get in a virtual jam room with people and sync to a common clock (there’s a metronome running). The trick for dealing with latency is that your signal is delayed by a musical amount — say 4 bars — before it hits the other person. So you’re jamming “in time” with each other, sync’d to a clock, but actually hearing each other 4 bars in the past.
The net effect is that it feels like you’re jamming with someone in a room nextdoor that you can’t see. You’re not cognizant of the 4-bar delay, you’re just jamming with what you’re hearing through your headphones or speakers. This works best if you’re jamming in a sort of continuous, unstructured way — it’s hard to coordinate a big drop or rigid structure with another person when dealing with these delays, but if you’re just vibing and letting the jam meander, it works perfectly.
If any other 'nauts out there are interested in this, maybe we could coordinate a jam session together some time. Could be fun to link up from different parts of the world and see what happens.

I might be repeating some information back to you, since it looks like you had it down pretty well in your original post on this thread. Here’s what worked for me:
When you open Jamtaba, go into Preferences → Audio to select your interface and the inputs/outputs you want to use.
On the left side of the Jamtaba screen, you can set up the tracks you want to play through. (I tend to use a single track with a stereo input, but you can add more tracks if you want.)
Once you have your audio coming through Jamtaba, you’re ready to jam. Just choose a jam room and hit the “Enter” button to join. Each room has a BPM for the main clock and a “Beats Per Interval” setting, which is the delay in signal between you and your jam partners.
I explained the “Interval” concept in my previous comment — basically you and your jam partners are hearing each other on a delay, except the delay time is calculated in musical terms (e.g. 1 bar, 2 bars, whatever you select). This way you don’t have to worry about latency — you’re not hearing your jam partner immediately when they play, but you hear them 1 or 2 bars later, which feels “in time” with the jam.
Feel free to ask any additional questions. I know Jamtaba has more features (I think there’s a looper in there) but I’m just using it in the way I described, pretty straightforward. The timing interval concept is way more complicated to think about than to actually use — in practice, you don’t even think about it at all, it just feels like jamming.

I guess I can’t use Jambtaba to construct a track within a DAW with someone else online in another country ? Like Ableton Live where Two person can add audio and midi, playing while the other one do its thing… (like an Advanced screen sharing)

Gotcha — yeah it sounds like Jamtaba won’t work for what you have in mind, though it does sound like a cool idea. Maybe worth creating a separate thread for collaborative production?

Yes @your_lamp I would create an “action” thread, people are used to that I’m throwing some “info” “educational” thread (list) in here, sometimes a lot of people are interested sometimes not.
Create something engaging like “Are you ready to jam with me on Jamtaba ?”
Or “Nauts can we Jam with our Gears on Jamtaba ?” or “Next Elektronauts Jamtaba session”
or something like that. I think it would be more engaging some do remix, challenge and it seem to work well… people are responding.
