It's official... I'm an Elektronaut again!

Hey there everyone! I just wanted to express my excitement in being an “official” Elektronaut again.
I parted with my analog Four MK2 I had for ages (and the MK1 before it) since a bit more than a year I think, but I’m back with you all today with an Octatrack MK2!

I’ve been curious about this thing since a long time but never pulled the plug due to the price of the machine and the fact I was well covered with sampler / sequencer being a beta tester at Polyend hehehe.
But one of my super lovely Patreon subscriber decided to give me (!) his Octatrack he wasn’t using, I couldn’t say no of course hahaha.

So I’ll probably need some help from you specialist as it has the reputation of being a very complex instrument.

Anyway, once again happy to be “back”

I’m sure someone with your skills and experience will have little trouble figuring it out.

Parts are kits.

Setting up recording is a ballache, you’ll either get it or you won’t.

Turn timestretch and the filter off if you’re not using them.

Use Octachainer to create chains of up to 64 slices.

Resampling or recording with a trig on a FLEX track is the best way IMO (and in @sezare56’s, which counts for something).
PM me if you wish to talk about this on the phone/vid in French

I love my Octatrack. I’ve had it for a bunch of years now and I’m still learning new things. In my set up, it makes a great “brain” for the whole system (including A4, AR, DN, and a small Euro system).

Yep – for the last few weeks i’ve been working on a project that relies on flex machines with sample trigs to sample my guitar synth rig. It’s taken (and is still taking) some experimenting to get it to work, but now it does and it’s awesome.

Also yep. Lots of practice and patience will pay off.

IMO Thavius Beck’s intro tutorials are the best out there, even though they’ve been around for a good long while. They’re a great way to get the basics down should you feel the need for some guidance at the beginning.

Congrats on the acquisition, the complexity is IMHO a bit overstated and a bit to do with naming conventions and the “machine” paradigm. Comflexity.

Things to take note of:

The 8 track recorders are always available to record, it can be easy to inadvertently overwrite them if you are not familiar with this, however it is very easy to save a recording, so learn that first.

Flex are your samples for mangling, static are more suited to stems or longer samples that don’t need as much mangling.

It is easy to record from a variety of sources, both internal and external or both.

Learn about parts and their consequences and application, and understand that a change in the same part will be reflected in other patterns that use that part.

Everything is covered in the manual.

Have fun (you definitely will!)

First little jam with the beast over here!

Only four samples used here, a good old amen break, a 808 beat and two bites of MC-202 (all taken from my sample pack from demo of the Hors D’Oeuvre ], and it’s also only one pattern looping during the whole session.

This thing does have power hahaha. It also has a very distinctive sound, probably due to the effects that are sound a bit « old digital » but not necessary in a bad way.
Anyway it’s fun to learn how to use this thing. I’m still to explore resampling and midi.
