It’s starting to drive me nuts that I can’t make perfect loops (from something like a pad sound) on my SP-404 mkii. I don’t get why crossfade for loops isn’t a more common feature on samplers since most genres would benefit from it. Does anyone know of one that has this? It looks like Digitakt doesn’t have it from what I can see.
MPCs let you crossfade samples to form loops. My MPC Live does it easily.
M8 (full sentence)
AKAI MPC Live, Force… it’s called “X-Fade”.
In general, “why doesn’t gear A or B have this or that?”, well because hardware is limited by definition. Cause engineers have limited time to develop the OS too, so they have to prioritize the core functions.
I’m pretty sure Elektron makes a sampler with a crossfader
Yeah, I’ve heard of it.
What a pity this crossfader hasn’t made it to every box, becoming Elektron’s iconic workflow for scenes to complete their awesome sequencer.
I think anything with more than one track and a precise enough control of LFOs and their routing destinations could approximate it, though I wouldn’t expect perfection when it’s a workaround and not a feature.
Thanks for the replies. Looks I like I need to re-examine the MPC’s. I get that developers have limited resources and all that. Although it is interesting that a tiny operation like Dirtywave and a behemoth like Akai can both implement it. Typically I embrace limitations, hell I even defend the Timbre Wolf! But a simple crossfade is all I ask!
I’ll be honest I’ve been pretty baffled why it isn’t considered a standard requirement in designing sampler hardware.
There are even a few loopers out there that don’t have a crossfade option. So it’s no wonder that not all samplers have it on board. But i agree, it should be standard nowadays.
Especially when it was pretty much standard fare years ago
Octatrack ?
EDIT: Looks like there is a way
OP-1 Field has it.

Best crossfader ever is the Octatrack.
