As this thread is back up top had to post this as it made me laugh this week:

I don’t know. I don’t get involved in that. I’m the bass player. I just wait for someone to tell me what to do. Brad said what he said, but he’s one step above me. He’s in the number three spot. I am the low man on the totem pole. That’s all I can tell you. I’m the bass player. The bass players always are the last people to find out about shit like that.

Question for all the JMJ Mustang owners.

Is the washer intentionally rusted on the input jack? And is yours super beat up? The pic below shows the washer and some deep dents!

I’m thinking this one sat in a warehouse as it has that smell and would explain the washer if it’s not intentional. Everything else is solid, just curious.

Sorry to be so annoying!

You’re annoying bro! pee yew! I guarantee that it’s intentionally rusted. those deep dents are from some monkey labor of dropping screwdrivers and hitting it with a ball peen hammer or something (look at how uniform the size and depth of the dents are!).

I don’t own one or anything but I’ve seen fender’s other “road worn” stuff, this has to be along those lines. probably a bit higher end rust though!

Mine doesn’t have the rusted washer, but it does have a pattern of relicing that most closely resembles an attack by an irate woodpecker. I have no idea where this person got the idea that humans could possible cause this sort of wear on an instrument, but…whoa. Luckily, it’s an amazing bass and I got a decent deal through GC’s used site a long while back, so it’s just fine with me.

Ha! Same here! And about the same spot!

I don’t recall having any rust on mine, but it did have the woodpecker markings. I remember the tuners having a lightly scuffed look to them as well.

See, this is why I prefer to beat the crap out of my guitars myself…

If you want something done right, as they say…

Cheers!

So I’m probably returning my JMJ. I really like it but it smells! It has since day one and it’s not getting better. It has a super musty stench, overbearing at times! Assuming it was sitting in a warehouse for quite some time. Like I said before, also probably why the jack nut is rusted.

Kind of a bummer but as they say, if things seam too good to be true! I still have a few days to decide. We’ll see!

Well there goes the JMJ on the last day to return, really liked that bass! Liked it a lot! But I couldn’t get rid of the musty smell so it’s on its way back. Super bummed!

Sorry to hear that. Good luck with your next bass!

All this Mustang bass talk got me checking out videos and stuff . This guy did a shootout of Mustang basses, loved the JMJ the most but he also thought highly of the Vintera II.

Bummer. Maybe another non-stanky one will turn up LOL

My rig…after many years of swapping and experimenting, I feel like I’ve found home bass. Passive Sire Jazz with flats, Genz Benz shuttle amp with a custom 2x12 cabinet. The Sire is nicer than basses I’ve had that cost twice as much, it’s no joke. :ok_hand:

My latest ‘bass’ is only sort of a bass…

Got it for my solo electronic gigs along with an Aeros looper, so it can kind of cover bass and guitar duties…kind of

Is this the squier version? looks awesome. I’ve never actually played one but apparently depending on string gauge and set up it can be closer to a baritone guitar or on a heavier gauge more like a six string bass. How does the string spacing feel?

It is the Squier version, but with a Stay Trem bridge and AVRI tailpiece, which is supposedly the mod that makes this thing intonate better, which it does. I bought it used this way. I was all set to save a few bucks for either the Vintera 2 or an Eastwood Hooky Pro, but so many local guys in Nashville swear the Squier is amazing and I found this cheap, so…

I gotta say, so far I don’t find it to be amazing, but it doesn’t suck. Gonna try slightly heavier gauge flats, I think. String spacing is tight for me as a bass player, but I’m getting used to it. I mostly play with a pick anyway. After I bought mine I had a chance to try a couple Vintera 2’s, which to me look cooler, play a little nicer and sound slightly better. A thousand dollars better? I dunno, but better is…better. I’m going to hang on to this one, at least for now. Thinking of a pickup swap, but gotta talk to my tech about it.
