iPad Music Apps

FRMS sounds incredible and not too hard to wrap your head around. Not sure how it compares to S4, it’s got 4 voices and is granular with modulation… must be same ballpark

I only bought it yesterday and i quite liked it but didn’t realise you can’t add samples. I saw someone add samples on YouTube but it must have been on a Mac because I can’t find a way on iPad. I also wanted to add a simple lfo for pitch and couldn’t figure it out.

I will wait for JULY, digital synth, which is a faithful amalgamation of the Roland Jupiter 8 and Korg Monopoly, two of the most iconic synthesizers of all times. They spent years living and sleeping with the originals, studying every quirk and falling for their charm, from the warm, unsteady VCOs to the grainy filter.

Ok, joke aside, Waldorf released Streichfett and Blofeld in the app store, alongside Nave and Microwave. Pretty nice.

You’re right, getting similar results is totally possible but the immediate, fun and inspiring part is usually lost, at least in my experience.

I’ve been liking the gauss tape looper very much, I find it a bit sparse with it’s editing options which I think is intended.

I I actually own this one and totally forgot about it, excellent suggestion. It seems complicated but actually makes sense. I might have to get the pen out for the editing as there’s a lot there.

I wonder if drambo is ta better place to build this, that way it might be possible to map all the most important parameters and have them all close by then and save it as an instrument.

Are there any apps that can do the granular/looping/resampling thing on live incoming audio? IE like the S4 and/or an OT?

There are several. One of the most praised, Borderlands, is on sale right now. It really makes good use of the touchscreen. But it is IAA only (not AUv3) and has not been recently updated. The makers of FRMS (mentioned above) have a granular FX app as well.

The Loopy Pro forum is a good source of information on all things related to iOS and music.

There was a post from the Borderlands developer recently saying that he is working on updates. Maybe this year, maybe next.

Fluss by Bram Bos sounds like it could do what you want. It’s incredibly powerful and operates with imported audio, can be recorded into, and can process sound live.

+1 for Fluss

Tardigrain and Spacecraft are pretty good granular synths. Borderlands makes it most obvious how granular “synthesis” (or rather resampling) works.

I think having the samples looping on independent tracks without monitoring and being feed to Circa is a good workaround.

just wondering if with either DTII or TV, is it possible to send audio over usb, effect it in the iPad and then sample back in?

I’ve not used an iPad before so just wondering if this is all possible over usb?

Only speaking for DT2, but yes, you can choose 1 stereo or 2 mono tracks, or Main to send via USB audio (Audio Routing menu), then sample back the USB in. I find DT2 plays very nicely with iPad instruments and effects.

Going by the word “Dronage” on the screenshot I’m going to guess it could be that :eyes:
