iPad Music Apps?

Anybody knows if latest USB-C iPads (not pro, basic ones) can power more power hungry controllers or audio cards? I have iPad 9 with lightning and it can only power controllers, which support low power mode (e.g. LaunchControl XL works, but Launchkey mini doesn’t).

iPad pro powers a launchpad pro mk III

any usb c ipads provide up to about 7w of power.
the lightning port was about 100mah

i really havent found a controller my ipad mini6 wouldnt power.
that being said…fully charged battery, running AUM and a bunch of synths/effects, and an LPPmk3 plugged in was about 2-3 hours of battery life…

controllers with a lot of lights fair the worst on battery life…

Thanks! Yeah battery life is something to consider. But it’s great that it can at least power it without adapters, usb hubs and powerbanks for some couch fun. I’ll probably upgrade to USB-C for this reason. Maybe even to Air for stereo speakers and M3 chip. Is it significantly better for audio than A16?

I use the newer A16 with Logic and a Torso sequencing multiple tracks. I dont mind the speaker in it, even the 13" air M2 I had sounded better but I hook up my ipad at home to my system and so saving money on a cheaper Ipad that works just as well and at least having an ok speaker for those portable times works for me.

It doesn’t matter the model if you use a USB C hub with Power Delivery to power all the devices and iPad from it.

Groove Rider 2 seems to be adding new features at a healthy clip, as expected from the great developer. Any updated reports on how people are liking it?

It’s not about quality, it just annoys me that I only hear it form left/right when using it in landscape mode. But I just noticed that basic iPad now also has speakers on both sides like Air, so that’s cool.

I really like it. Right now, it is my go-to app when I don’t have any external gear, because of the fast workflow that is well adapted to touchscreens. There are a bit more constraints than Loopy Pro or AUM, for routing AUv3s and effects for example, but this lets you focus more on other things. GR-2 is pretty complete by itself, and I use it to change things up from my traditional workflow. I recommend it!

Ya…I’m getting more and more into GR2. I will try it tonight with the LPP but I know it will be a nice unit to use with it. I just got a used D1 and have a B2600 so not sure which direction I will go but it’s nice having choices!

good insights in this video. Thanks for posting.
At first glance, I thought, why are we talking about this old synth?, but I decided to just click through and I’m glad i did.
I wasn’t aware of the [minor] drama detailed here.
I have the old one, and I use it, but I was never blown away. mostly just used the epiano sound. Did you get it? what do you think? Do you have the old one?

I think Audiokit Pro will release their J6 app in a few weeks. They also recently released a King of VHS which is worth a look. I’m wanting to get that.

I might have asked already but, how ie everybody getting on with the IMPC pro 2app these days, I used to complain about it alot on the audiobus forum but I’ve been messing with it alot recently and it’s been flawless…?

It used to get roundly dismissed but I had an MPC Fly for a while and really enjoyed it. Maybe that’s nostalgia about my 2000XL but I’ve made some stuff I really liked with it

I remember when the fly came out I thought it was the next big step in music production and I was already using iPad for production.

Never got one though, think there was some issues and then it didn’t fit the new iPad I had.

yeah the fly was fly haha, I was contemplating getting one again but decided not to

Yeah I was using it with a 30 pin iPad 2 (which also still runs Samplr!)

compared to the beatmaking apps coming out these days with the exception of groove rider the impc pro 2 is pretty advanced for an ios app, I think I prefer it to Koala
