Gotta say I’d be pretty impressed if you can find a laptop for 180 dollars that performs better than an m1 iPad for music production…
Why be impressed. You were able to run full DAW’s on Laptops before the iPad even existed.
So again the power is there but it’s Apple screwing you big time.
That’s your opinion fella and your entitled to it, plenty of us don’t feel screwed though and thoroughly enjoy our iPads so why come over here spouting anti apple rhetoric on a thread dedicated to iPad apps…
As I stated (which is not an opinion but fact), we’re able to do far more on older laptops than we can on current iPad’s when it comes to music production. Not because the iPad isn’t powerful enough but because Apple doesn’t allow developers to do anything beyond what Apple wants.
You can still enjoy your iPad though, that’s not the point I was trying to make. For the record I currently have 3 iPad’s (iPad 2, iPad Air, iPad Pro 2020). So maybe I’m not full anti Apple, just critical after speding thousands of euro’s on iPads.
Please send me a purchasing link where I can buy a new laptop for $330 US dollars that can run Drambo, one of my favourite music making apps on any platform. I would be very much like to buy it.
Edit - you said 1/4 the price, so this new laptop will need to be in the $80-90 US range. I smell a deal!
You can do stuff on a laptop you can do on an iPad just as you can do stuff on a iPad that you can do on hardware costing 1000s
Difference between each is how you do it, the user experience and platform between user and end result
Where iPad excels for me is the ui on apps and the interaction they provide. Also the portability of the iPad. I know a laptop is portable but holding an iPad in one hand and using touch screen is far easier than holding a laptop.
But I love using hardware, laptops and ipads. All provide something different and yes they can have the same results but it’s the process that each differ in.
Have found the enclosed apple structure a positive in the iPad as compared to android which is open its light years ahead for music production
Any advice on how to use Pure Acid inside Drambo? Are you using Drambo to sequence the drums and bass or Pure Acids own sequencer? If the latter how do you get it to change patterns?
What makes you think something like Drambo wouldn’t work on old laptops? (pretending that there’s an actual version available for MacOS/Windows/Linux.)
Because it requires an M1 laptop/desktop to run.
You can use the MIDI PC Generator module to send a pattern change to Pure Acid - I just tested this simple config:
Change the PC value and Pure Acid will switch to the related pattern at the start of the next bar. It looks like channel 10 changes the drum pattern and any other channel changes the bassline pattern. I imagine you can extend this by mapping various other Drambo elements to control the PC Generator. Hope that helps!
Does it? Their website doesn’t mention MacOS. And on iOS it requires iOS 11.3 or up.
Edit: I see it can run the iOS app in MacOS and yes that would require an M1 CPU.
Thanks
How do you trigger the program change in the sequencer?
Would Drambo be able to run on a i3 Intel CPU if Beepstreet wanted to?
My guess would be easily, but that would probably require them to developing the whole application over again right? And that would probably not be worth the investment. Please do clarify if I am wrong.
Do you mean send program changes to Pure Acid from Drambo’s sequencer? If so, you can p-lock the PC Generator values - just hold a step down in the Drambo sequencer while you change the PC Generator values.
I just tried this and the only issue I noticed was that a p-lock at the start of a Drambo pattern didn’t kick in until the next bar - so you might need to send them on the last step of the previous pattern (or at any point in the previous pattern, because the changes are synced to the bar). Hopefully that makes sense - there might be a better solution, as you might want every pattern in Drambo to map to a specific PA pattern. If I work that out, I’ll let you know (I wonder if automation would work better than p-locks here?).
@x0x - Slight update: I just went back to see if I could get a better result with an automation lane, and before getting to that I noticed that the p-lock pattern changes were now behaving as expected - changing PA patterns at the start of the Drambo pattern (with the p-locks on step 1).
But then they starting lagging behind by a bar again, but then they went back to immediate sync…
So there seems to be an inconsistency there that could lie with either Drambo or PA - kind of a race condition where PA won’t activate the program change if it considers the bar already started, but sometimes the program change does come first.
I’ll keep looking into that, but if you find that it all seems to work despite my earlier warning, that’s probably the reason - and my guess is that if you try enough program changes on step one, you’ll eventually have some that are delayed by a bar.
I must have been having bad luck earlier, because I just tried per-bar program change messages to PA for about three minutes straight (since it’s Sunday), and I only had one of them fail. Going to drop some other apps in place of PA and see if I get similar results (since it’s Sunday).
I just got the 80% off email offer Imaginando’s VS… any users/feedback on it?
Worth it?
So, you don’t have a link for me to buy a $80-90 new laptop to run the software I want?
Bummer, you seemed so sure that it existed, got my hopes up. When you find one, please share the link!
