iPad Music Apps?

Absolutely brilliant - thank you massively for this!

All hail the mighty pen mod, killer of DFAM GAS!

I see Aphelian is on offer at the moment. There’s just one brief mention in the thread by @SoundRider, who was enjoying it back in 2019. It does look interesting, perhaps along the lines of the Animoog Z sequencer with a more structured approach. Any other happy users? The price isn’t an obstacle, but I do feel like I’m getting to the point where I need a good reason to increase the burden of scrolling through my AUV3 list…

I got this working- I got a simple Mio USB-Din 1 in 1 out, works great. :+1:

Next issue I’m having;

AUM v Audiobus 3.

I much prefer the UI and approach of AUM, but Audiobus seems way more midi sync friendly.
I can get AB3 to clock from my MPC fine, and pass that on to synths/fx.

Am I missing something with AUM? Is there no way to master slave it to my MPC to pass that sync on to the channels in the mix?

No afriad not AUM only does Ableton link, you can get round it with an app called midi link sync though, unfortunately the AUM developers don’t seem in any rush to implement the feature either… the other factor worth noting is that the mpc doesn’t have a full implementation of Ableton link either, no stop start messages are sent when using the mpc as master with Ableton link, only the sync info… it’s a minefield to be fair and part of the reason I don’t own an mpc anymore…

Ok thanks. :+1:

Audiobus 3 seems like the better way for me to go for now then.

For what I’m working on right now, I’m committing to having the MPC as my main sequencer, and I want to sequence some iOS synths from it.

It looks like the Ableton Link side of the MPC is getting updated in the 2.11 update coming in a few weeks too.

Yeah I used audiobus for a number of projects with my mpc one and it was rock solid timing wise with a usb midi interface, Abe’s link is convenient for sure but it’s not perfect yet…

Dunno wether you guys are aware but imaginando are having a killer sale this week, all their apps have been 80% off 1 app per day, today is their forms granular synth, if you don’t already have one in your arsenal like I didn’t then it’s a steal at its current price, all in app purchases are discounted the same .

@CCMP fwiw Drambo can either Send or Receive Midi Clock in your setup. If you enjoy Elektron workflow for sequencing Drambo is the way to go on iOS.

thanks for the heads up! I’ve been tempted to get FRMS for a while but I wasn’t sure… for that price I can’t really resist it.

Looking to upgrade my ipad 6th gen to an 11 inch Pro but can’t decide on a 2018 (1tb storage, 6gb ram) or a 2021 (256gb storage, 3gb ram) for roughly the same price (second hand). I also have an Apple Pencil (1st gen) that’d I’d like to keep but not sure if it’s compatible with either device. The lack of headphone jack on the 2018 might bug me. Are both models the chipset that can run OSX plugins or did I just make that up?

What’s the best move to make here?

You cannot run OS X plugins on an iPad. You can run some iOS apps on M1 macs, developers permitting.

Anyone here on the Scaler 2 beta? If so, mind if I pick your brain and ask for a couple of screenshots?

Getting the newest one so it is supported for longer. Any lack in storage can be overcome with external storage and keeping bloat at bay. Lack of headphone jack is solved by getting a moderately priced audio/midi interface. Usb C on newer devices is a good thing to have. Enjoy your new pad!

I’d agree with that but I’ve been reading stuff online with people who have the 2018 model saying the 2021 one is not worth the upgrade. Who knows! :person_shrugging:

Decide how much you need a built in headphone jack. If you don’t need, then don’t look at anything that doesn’t have usb-c. Personally I’d wait a few months until the (usual) fall ios event.

I read online that the world is flat, so that’s something to consider. Both would be fine, I would choose the the year old iPad over the 5 year old model personally, especially if you are considering it a longer term solution. I tend to get a new iPad every third year or so, that way I have spares for entertainment and travel.

I already have an iConnectivity 4 audio interface which I use when the iPad is at my desk. Headphone jack is just so handy when you’re a bit more mobile (with just the iPad and time to kill etc.)

Thanks.

This side…that side…Still gotta cord coming out of it.

Trust me usb c and the official dongle or sharkoon mobile dac with pd is way handier than proprietary ports and a headphone jack, I would go back now even though I bemoaned it for quite a while… there a massive choice of 3rd party usb c hubs out there that open up a world of possibilities connectivity wise and they don’t cost the earth either…
