I get what you mean about Axon’s sequencer, but I quite like it’s tone. Try sequencing it with the DT!
Bought Pure Acid (on sale now 7.99 i think) and its a sweet app!
FAC Transient and Maxima are v good for adding punch to any iPad drums. On the more expensive side, but could well be in Nov sales.
To be honest right now I just go for Pure Acid and use those classic sounds, which is a bit limiting but at least you know it’ll sound good and is easy to sequence. Nothing else really sounds that great or is that great to use IMO. Looking forward to Sugarbytes Drumcomputer, looks like exactly what iOS needs drums-wise
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I really don’t like it.
Ha yeah, totally depends what sound you are going for etc. Would love a more flexible but usable AUv3 drum machine!
I actually haven’t used standalone drum machine apps that much. Most of my drum usage has been within workstation apps like Nanostudio 2, miRack, and Sunvox.
Drambo is fun but then I fell into the miRack rabbit hole.
It’s an illusion m8; in the real world your G2 is still superior!
About a year ago, somebody started the inevitable miRack vs. Drambo thread - really he wanted to know which would be easier to learn/use.
A lot of responses were along the lines of “dude get Drambo, its easier - miRack is only for the serious Eurorack heads”. As it turned out, I’ve actually had an easier time learning to use miRack.
But I know someday I’ll have the time and accumulated experience/personal growth/whatever to switch focus back to Drambo, so its all good.
Just played Elastic - very nice overall!
However, after half an hour I started getting audio breakage - like sample rate drop, something went wrong with the engine where the low frequencies were clipping/crushing in a very unpleasant way. Wasn’t any fx or similar, I rebooted the iPad (iPad Pro 2020) and was still there. Any idea?
The aforementioned Audiokit House:Mark I app. The video is more of like the story behind the app - it’s not required viewing. Proceeds go towards a music school program. Might wait until it actually goes back up to regular price so they get more money from me towards it.
Demos by Gavinksi and Doug - both the long, talk a alot and play type
Oh, here’s an actual just play, short demo
I guess a lot comes down to experience with other software and hardware and what the aim is. Drambo is designed for iOS only, while miRack is ported. If you’ve got a comp with the specs, far easier to just use VCV IMO.
After Drambo was released, spent quite a bit of time patching and exploring it just standalone, no midi controllers. Track below was probs best what I came up with - I patched all the sounds - one go “on screen” using the variations .
I actually worked my way through maybe 3 or so Drambo videos and played with Drambo before getting miRack. No previous experience with real Eurorack or VCVRack.
I did benefit from excellent tutorial vids for miRack and VCVRack.
Your experience with G2 maybe more conducive to miRack?
No, it was stumbling upon Sarah Longfield’s Eurorack demo and mini-walkthrough that pushed me towards miRack.
so yeah as you hinted, the aim had to do with it. I got interested in maybe starting a Eurorack system, so that direction looked more relevant to me at the moment.
If you like the Elektron workflow you will like the Drambo work flow. It’s not identical, but it’s definitely a close cousin to its workflow in the larger scheme of things. It’s amazing that Drambo only came out this April. It’s the one highlight of 2020 i won’t forget for a long time.
I love creating in Drambo. It just clicks with me.
The iPad has grown up a lot with the addition of Drambo and miRack. So many great options now.
And don’t forget to animate XoX « Mut » parameter and velocity via some LFO
Guess it depends on how you work, for me I see using the iPad as something relaxing that I can do on the sofa in the evening whereas using my laptop feels like work (I’m a developer so use the computer all day), so I’d rather use MiRack. I tend to use it with the pencil so I guess it’s not really taking advantage of touch in the same way as some apps, but I have started really enjoying it.
I do think Drambo is an amazing achievement too, but right now I’m having more fun with MiRack - I feel like it’s a bit easier to just mess around without thinking too much and come up with a random cool patch in MiRack, whereas Drambo requires you to think a bit more about what you want to achieve and how you are going to do it.
Quite different apps aside from the “modular” element though, Drambo’s sequencer and x-fader make it a lot easier to make “proper” music in while MiRack is maybe more conducive to modular noodling, so the obvious answer is, as always, to get both .
Shame MiRack doesn’t have an audio recorder built in, I need to get into the habit of running it via AUM or something as often the best bits are those fleeting moments while messing about!
Can’t confirm that for me unfortunately. Love Elektrons, don’t like the drambo workflow a lot. I think the sequencer is fiddly, less immediate. I’m not a fan of the UI.
The modular patching in it is great though
That’s the beauty of music making apps on iOS. There’s an app to fit the needs of everyone. Apps like hardware won’t satisfy everyone…and that’s ok.
I personally have made more music in Drambo in the last 7 months than i did all last year and i love how it’s re-energized my love for music making on the iPad and on my Digitone and OctaTrack. I love what BeepStreet has done and the upcoming AUv3 host mode of Drambo is going to blow the doors off for me and really let it shine.
