iPad Music Apps?

Ah yeah, that is annoying! Wonder if there’s a way round that…

Quick DAW question:

GarageBand is not midi-flexible enough for me, which of the DAW’s allows you to do this?

Audio Track - input from hardware interface
MIDI Track - no output, input from keyboard
2.
Record MIDI block, edit notes to taste

Route MIDI Track output to keyboard thru

Arm Audio track to record and record H/W input

I preferably want it to be a self-contained environment, Beatmaker, Cubasis, Aira, anything like that?

I’m quite clueless, I’m not very smart with electricity etc…

Ok need a hub with a USB-C PD (Power Delivery) port on it, to charge a USB-C iPad.

Thanks. I appreciate the help.

My hub seems to have that, it’s that model: https://www.luohuigroup.com/products/atzebe-usb-c-hub-type-c-adapter. It works with my thinkpad and powers it.

It does work with the iPad as well by the way, if I don’t use the battery pack but plug it to the house power socket. Just not with the power bank…

I even have the Apple adapter with USB and USB 3, and there too, with the battery, no juce.

Battery directly n the iPad works…

puzzled!

Beatmaker3 can do all that

Thank you!

No prob, don’t know if you have mpc experience but it’s sorta similar in this regard. you’ve got pads which can load samples or an AU. There’s 16 by default but you can have up to 128 pads per bank. To send midi out though one quirk is that something has to be loaded on the pad so just load any sample and turn the volume down. Midi in/out is per bank. If you get it and need help just comment back cause it takes a little to wrap your head round it but it does do basically everything

Ok, thanks for the heads up. I’ve used a lot of different interfaces and figuring this out should be achievable. It seems like a roundabout way, it does have a linear sequencer doesn’t it?

My MIDI keyboard has simultaneous in/out via USB and a midi out to my H/W synth, I just want some audio feedback while recording midi and be able to prepare it before recording the audio track. GB has a RouteMidi 3rd party app, but it’s garbage as you can’t audition the recording audio track while recording or editing the midi. So you have to prepare the midi file on a temporary factory instrument. After that the timing is ridiculously off even on basic note sequences. Sorry to the author if you read this but you got beer money for this shitshow

Beatmaker 3 is excellent the more I dive into it.

Unfortunately, from my background, it is hardly intuitive. I have to make a conscious effort to try to learn it. But as far as trying to get a good classic sampling composition workflow it seems superior to getting a Maschine in cost and ability and cheaper and more flexible than what I’ve dabbled in with a MPC

it was difficult for me as well but now I use it all the time

I’m really getting along with it the more I get over needing to learn it

Yeah linear sequencer, it has a clip launcher way too but I never use that personally

Yeah man preach. Since adding Drambo to beatmaker and mirack I sold my octatrack+maschine and haven’t missed it at all. I just had to be realistic about functionality to price investment, I haven’t come across anything I can’t do. Not sure if I was using some dodgy AU with beatmaker at some point but my crashes have been down dramatically too. Its not intuitive at all but once you get it then it’s very hard to beat

Quick question for midi wizards.

I have a Roland UM-ONE midi interface connected to my vintage synth to be able to create and edit patches via patch base. I also have a midi keyboard connected via USB, but I can’t tell IOS to send the keyboard midi to the interface. Is there any app that does this type of rerouting? There are a bunch of midi routing apps but they all seem software-oriented.

EDIT : Never mind, AUM does it!!

That’s usually the answer! Either that or Drambo

Ordered 11” iPad pro 2020. There’s more than month waiting time in Norway - is that normal? Anyone with similar experience? Probably Corona related delays…

Yeah, Apple are having issues producing them fast enough. I ended up buying a 2018 model as there’s little difference between them for my use (same CPU, I don’t need better graphics or more RAM and I don’t care about AR or cameras on the iPad), it was a lot cheaper (as retailers are trying to get rid of their stock) and it delivered straight away… so maybe take a look if anywhere in your country has 2018 models in stock? I got mine refurbished (which just means customer return usually, it’s spotless) from a big UK retailer’s eBay store for £300 less than the new model would be!

Been using zenbeats last few days and surprised how enjoyable it is and quick to use

I tried it when it came out and hated it but the updates have made it so much better especially with my fav AuV3s

That free moog one is pretty good. Always sample from it
