iPad Music Apps?

have in mind multiple USB sources on a non-powered usb hub can be a bit risky, or not work at all (if the power needed from all devices is too much for the iPad)
I’ve had cases where controllers stop connecting, things like that… depends on what you’re expecting to do

offtopic afterthought: I really wish for a class-compliant mode for Digitakt, as in Analog Heat.
stereo-only audio stream via USB would be amazing - that way one could send MIDI and audio to the iPad with a single cable, which would be great for post-processing / transition looping…

Crashes if over 3 instances in any host I’ve tried
Doesn’t recall patches per instance
:frowning:

(Samplr)
Can’t get sync from Audiobus or Cubasis
Octatrack clock sends it crazy
Had some luck with clock from Patterning

This is true but as long as too much current isnt drawn, I find stuff works OK. What I recomend however is plugging the USB C port to a wall socket to give power to the CCK for best results

I’ve used two controllers without a CCK powered and one NI interface + LCXL + computer keyboard with CCK powering things, so at least those combos worked.

Good note, I don’t want to go to crazy. I think I might sacrifice a track from de model samples, giving me 15 knobs to use for midi. Should be enough.

Man, I just discovered this approach to music. Its really inspiring, I’ve been on live since the first day I started. Use some hardware too now, but still on live10.

Thanks for all the help guys and girls

Sidenote: Crazy possibilities with my babyface and ada8200 too.

What’s a good synth with a built for touch interface?
I use Nave and Factory but they’re obviously build with a mouse in mind.
I have Animoog but it never clicked somehow…

IMO the following sound generators have nice touch surface UIs:

  • SynthScaper
  • SoundScaper
  • Samplr
  • iKaossilator
  • Tardigrain
  • Borderlands
  • Quanta
  • ROTOR
  • Addictive Pro

RIBN is really nice - Not a synth but can control and modulate them. Excellent interface

Gestrument pro too

Scatterbrain is one of the first (the first?) multi-out effect plugins. It rhythmically chops up incoming audio and distributes it over multiple (max. 4) outputs.

You can sequence the order of the distribution and/or leave it up to chance. Additionally you can let it randomly trigger slice and stutter effects for an additional bit of chaos. (Put simply this lets you create an Effectrix-like effect but using your own effect plugins).

If that sounds abstract, check out this video for a hands-on demonstration:

For the multi-out effect you obviously need a host that supports multiple outputs for effects plugins (have you updated AUM yet, today?). In ‘normal’ hosts the plugin will also work, but only output audio on channel 1.

Find it on the App Store today:

Quanta’s (and most of AD’s synths) have terrible interfaces. They’re so small and the knobs are so sensitive. The sounds are great, but I def. would not put them in the same boat as any of the others that you’ve mentioned.

awesome. I buy every bram bos app instantly anyway

So many great stuff.
I’m using my ipad every day now. It became my main tool for generating ideas and for jamming.
Aum + brambos and audio damage apps are pretty perfect for me to lay demos down.

And grooverider and pureacid are great grooveboxes.

I consider selling some hardware in order to upgrade my ipad

You know what? It pains me to say this, but I think you’re right. Continúa is amazing, but I just don’t like using it. The interface is just off on iOS, and the lack of a reset to default shortcut/gesture is really disappointing.

I found continua layout great but the sound doesn’t really do it for me as much as I’d hoped. Its really fun but I’m not really getting the “warm luscious” vibe they were supposedly going for. Also the wave shape graphics keep freezing, particularly as an AU. It’s a fun app other than that, very fun with launchpad doing aftertouch. Modulation assignment sets the bar but at the cost of tap-a-knob-to-zero functionality, I use that a lot on iOS synths

Possible to preview samples before loading?

Seems like this app hasn’t been mentioned yet, it’s pretty fun but more for a „live“ approach. Most packs are for subscribers only though but the free packs are enough to have some fun and get an impression of the app itself:

My friend suggested Spacecraft for granular. Looks similar to Samplr. Very well designed for touch.

OK there’s been an AUM update, tryna map OT transport to AUM.

I can map double stop on the OT to aum’s Stop/Rewind control cc 123.

Play is still a loose end, atm I have OT Track trig 8 which is note 31 mapped to Toggle play in aum.

Not really ideal but at least stop works
