iPad Music Apps

Is there a kind of envelope follower app? Like an AU app that will read the vol level of a signal and then send a midi value according to the level?

Yes and it’s great - Envolver

Yes! Thank you!

All FAC plugin sound really good but they add a lot of latency due to their CPU demand :worried:
I use it for mixing but never in live setup due to the latency.

This is awesome! Just the sort of app that made me interested in iOS music in the first place - quirky, fun and sounds great. Loads of great sample food for Digitakt/Octatrack in here and only £1.99. Must buy if you’re into even slightly glitchy electronic sounds!

Maybe it hasn’t been an issue for me because I just use it with the cue out audio from octatrack going into rnvolvet as the control envelope over a cc going midi out to octatrack (eg. sidechaining) & not alongside any app audio.

Sounds sweet, can’t wait to get a chance to try it out, thanks for the share!

If you like a bit of glitch and bleeps, check out Fractal Bits! Sequence it with at least four midi tracks on a digi/octa. This thing is radical!

I’m loving fractal bits

Just a quick note to say thank you for sharing your thoughts. You’ve given me a lot to think about. I intend to “try” one out at a store as soon as I can. The durability issue is important because I’m used to cramming my iPad into my backpack if I use it on the metro.

I’m also very annoyed at the idea of having to use a damn dongle for headphones. Grrr.

For some reason, most likely lack of tactile physical interface, I rarely tend to use ipad music apps, although I confess aside from Sidtracker64, which I got recently, the last music app I purchased was Gadget back shortly after it was released.

However I recently upgraded my aging ipad mini2 to a 2018 ipad pro 11” and will most likely get some new apps, both music related and other general stuff, so this thread will serve as a handy reference.

In the meantime anyone have recommendations for a vector based technical drawing app? I need something better than a sketchpad (because my drawing sucks) but not a full CAD app, basically I just want to draw fairly simple annotated diagrams for things like connector pinouts, simple schematics, and possibly front panel and hardware designs. I have a logitech crayon (apple pencil type thing) so I’d like an app that supports the pencil. Then I won’t have to inflict This kind of thing on the forum anymore! :joy:

Ah yes. This still drives me nuts.

Same. I use GarageBand a lot, but not any actual apps for making sounds. I do watch far too many gear videos on it though

Edit: I do use Sugarbytes’ Factory, sequenced by the Digitakt.

Bootooth headphones? :ghost:

Ear bud or over ear. If over ear open or closed cup?

For listening to stuff, yes. But for playing music, and recording, no way. There delay is too long.

i should have bought far less apps and use garageband more instead. The only app where actually finished tracks

For technical diagrams I use:

  • DrawExpressDiagram (simple, but with shape recognicion)
  • Grafio 4 (more complex, supports many types of diagrams with shape recognition/notes/grid/snap)
  • Concepts (supports even exact drawings with grid/snap/measures/guides)
