iOS Sequencer recommendations

I want to loop some iOS Piano apps along side my OT. I need to to play in unquantized and have enough polyphony for extended chords. A big thing is I need the sequencer to follow the OT bank and pattern changes. Also need to be able to set bar length. Does such an iOS sequencer exist? Note: I want to do this with midi and not an audio looper. I’m using the OT flex tracks for looping guitar and stems.

P.S. I have the hardware midi/iPad/OT figured out. Just need a sequencer app.

P.P.S This is a great forum. Thanks in advance :grinning:

I don’t have it but from what I remember Xequence2 slaved to the OT clock via Audiosbus could meet your needs.

Yes, that should work. This is the possibly the most advanced midi sequencer for iOS.

Have a look into Modstep

I just did some reading in the xequencer 2 manual and unfortunately it has to be master so that won’t work.

If you haven’t already, I would ask on the AudioBus forum. Another group of very knowledgable folks over there that would surely have some iOS specific recommendations.

ps. I have been looking through the apps I have but nothing seems to do everything you need.

Modstep is one of the first I bought when I got my iPad pro. Super flakey and always crashing. Sad, as it looked promising. Xequence 2 hosted in Audiobus is a great solution though

Set it up in Audiobus. Or, try Beatstep 3. It can be slaved, host AUv3 and IAA apps, and has sophisticated sample editing.

Cool. You must mean BeatMaker 3? I have that. Great app

Thanks for the info. Will check it out

That’s the one. I bought it a month or two ago when they announced MIDI slave.

I feel this is the hardest part of your request as I am not sure something like BM3 can follow bank and pattern changes.

How are you hoping this would work? When you change to a diffirent pattern on the OT the app takes a prgm change from the OT and also changes?

You could use the app MidiLinkSync to convert the OT’s midi out into Link and then sync up eg Xequence 2 via Link.

So MidiLinkSync follows your OT, translates that into Link and then set up your sequencer to sync via Link.

Yes that’s what I was hoping. But you are right this won’t work with BM3

Ok that seems easy enough

So it seems I might find a partial solution by using MidiLinkSync. In the end though I can probably only achieve the ultimate goal by using a hardware sequencer synced to the OT. However finding one with very fine resolution looks to be a challenge.

I’ve yet to have modstep crash on me - only been using for a few weeks but so far so good.
Was it anything particular you noticed crashed it?

I bought it about 5 months ago as the first sequencer I wanted to try. Looked promising. I can’t remember what specific AUv3 app or apps caused it to freeze and just perform piss poorly but it was just unusable. I couldn’t get anything setup because it would just freeze. Add to this that it hasn’t been updated in two years and I didn’t want anything to do with it.

Im only using hardware with it and so far no crashes, havent attempted iOS apps but its on the cards. Im happy with it tho even if Im just limited to the hardware as that’s the main focus.
