The set will surely be at night, so you’ll be fine?
Hmmm. I have a TR-6S. Perhaps I should get a Syntakt to go with it…
I’m gonna do it with a syntakt and an M:S. TR6S looks too fiddly, and there’s already a bunch of great Roland samples in my M:S.
That’s assuming I can’t cover it all with just the Stntakt.
Only fiddly to set up a few kits. After that it’s quite the little jamming machine.
Ideal for realtime pattern programming and tweaks, for sure.
M:S is great, though.
Yes, but now possibly looking at Mars due to logistics.
This is exact how I feel. I’m assuming this will just replace my DT.
I think, with this newmachine they are testing something. Next will be flagship synth, but in 2 or 3 years.
Sampling is illegal
j/k
didn’t have anything to do with ST, I swear!
Is the noise source on syntakt analog or digital? Isn’t it digital on analog rytm?
Funny, I was on a wild goose chase for a “great” analog noise source years ago, thinking it would make a world of difference, only to realize (a “good” source) analog noise sounds pretty much like any white noise. It’s more the filters and amplification stages (especially with old gear) that makes a difference - and both the Syntakt and Rytm has that part covered.
(On the other hand, there is that myth about a “defective” transistor being some magical noise source for the 808)
Just realised I would love to see/hear Jogging House take the Syntakt out for a spin. Pretty much single-handedly changed the way I was looking at the Digitone at the time. And in general really looking forward to people start pushing the ST into different directions.
There’s a dark woodiness to the Syntakt … in a good way. It’s not quite an AAS modelling paradigm, but it is ultimately based on a ‘hit things and they make a sound’ premise. Which offers a good range of synthesis options - though I do hope elektron takes it further with plucks, metallics and other such physical ambitions.
As a DT fan I can see the big attraction of the ST boldly not offering any sampling ‘do anything’ distraction and instead it is a complete focus on synthesis. Which for many is a breath of focus. No need to curate a selection of sample inloads, just pick up the box and it has whatever you need, however you want to shape it.
I hope the machines offered live up to that scope.
Song mode complaints make no sense to me. This is a phrase creator. Make your song by physically touching your performance machine to guide it with what you’ve fed it to do. Otherwise just play a WAV.
How can you entertain a crowd or even yourself, by just pressing play?
100% agree with you. He really helped me re-imagine how to use both the DN and DT.
Thanks, Ess. I think my experience in modular with digital versus analog noise sources is the basis for my interest here, but maybe I am imagining the difference, or the modules had unique quirks that made them an uneven comparison of the two methods of generation.
Yeah I guess what I’m saying is that the main part is perhaps not the noise itself but what it’s going through. Although, I’m sure there are plenty of very unique and cool sounding analog noise designs (as well as digital ones!)
Very interesting topic nonetheless, I love making noise generators.
I love digital noise, sweep reduce the clock rate for warp sounds
I like to sample stuff into the machine and use that, rather than scroll through long lists of premade samples. But then again, the Digitakt is already great for that.
Maybe ST is like Elden Ring; initially cool, then deeply disappointing as you wonder about its originality, then slowly reveals just how good it really is. (Personally speaking )
I like to perform, but to make an analogy, I’m not really keen on babysitting the band. They should know their parts.
You can make do with simple chains where you drag the finger across … I’m fine with that on M:C … but this is not a cheap box. Leaving any form of song mode out is borderline malicious
