Introducing Syntakt

The RYTM is about 8 years old now.

Have you ever used Class Compliant Audio? Because I haven’t.

I remember the early days of Overbridge 2 roll out you were able to stream the individual tracks when selecting it as a soundcard.

I could be wrong about Class Complient Audio, as I’m just on the outside looking in on it

They use the same analog machines but somehow with finer controls. They could easily update the graphics. MKii came out in 2017 with the interface update. The MKi can be argued it’s 8 years old. But when a new interface design is released with updated form factor and screen. MKii is a couple years old. And lacking vs the smaller boxes. Especially if they use the same analog machines, updated them and gave them finer tunings vs the actual rytm.

No but can you tell me if you understand the same thing as me by watching the Loopop video at 46:20? Thanks.

Edit : I’ve searched the manual but it isn’t clear. They don’t specifically say that you can stream the 12 Tracks via USB.

ā€œHook this up to a computerā€

I don’t think Class Compliant Audio protocol is typically used while connecting to a computer. Most commonly ios devices or in the asker’s question- Maschine+

class compliance can do stereo master & midi via USB to ios devices. I use it with my ipad. love it.

OB is for USB to a pc / mac. not class compliant. it’s a different thing.

Thank you for the clarification from a perspective of someone that actually knows what they’re talking about(unlike me)

I don’t really know much about it to be honest. just that it does that and its ace :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

I guess it’s a standard so that stuff can communicate without the need for drivers. or something

it’s plug & play, I know that.

I thought I’d have buyers remorse jumping on this yesterday. A little bit of guilt seeing as I’ve done little music for months and jumping back in felt first. But right now, I’m still in the giddy like a schoolboy phase and can’t wait to hook this up with my AK that’s sitting there after arriving on Wednesday.

Just need to remember to pump the brakes this time around and not be a clown buying more stuff…. This should do nicely for a long time. Might finally tempt me into getting a portable battery too.

the graphics real estate is restricted on AF AR to accommodate more live info like song stuff etc

I’d like to see finer resolution on many parameters on AR (esp coming from an A4 user’s perspective) - but it seems like the parameter tailoring is for immediacy rather than micro-sound-designing

the circuit topology may be broadly similar, but it doesn’t mean they’re identical - the circuits could be tweaked based on feedback and especially so given the opportunity to reincorporate old designs

it’s natural to look at new releases and compare, but it’s never ever credible (or tasteful imho) to think of things being crippled - if you read the forums, everything is hamstrung in some way or another or you’re being directed to buy them all or teh dearest, or the cheapest - things move on, Elektron are particularly good at bolstering products where possible retrospectively - so see what comes along, if anything, but imho, there will be updates to the Rytm so it has functional parity on certain recent additions to other devices - who knows if they’ll want to explore adding fine tune - keep in mind it’s a lot of work to ensure forwards and backwards compatibility (although from my own exploring of sysex, i believe they have the empty place holders for the LSB (fine) data )

as ever, sorry to patronize, see what you have, not what you haven’t  and have a little faith that some things may evolve on older platforms (but some may not)

we all tend to focus on one part of a wish and simplify the complexities actually required to do it, i’ve always tried to challenge that gut feeling and probe the ā€˜why-nots’
and it helps appreciate what can be involved and in turn how you can better understand the design - more often than not, when i’ve assumed i was right to question a ā€˜choice’ i’ve found that it wasn’t quite so straightforward after all

hth - enjoy the AR

You don’t know that the ARs won’t be updated. Have faith; Elektron has usually delivered right with these types of things.

Either way, to add to @avantronica, new toys, new features. That’s how it’s always worked.

When implementing AR machines, they had to start from scratch. So they spent their time on getting the basic sound right, not on animations.

For this box, they could take the working AR engines, and improve on it. The hard work had been done. So they could use their time on looking to improve the tuning, look at better ways of showing parameters on screen.

Also, we have seen in the past how they backport new features to existing models. The way envelopes are displayed was not part of AR. Came out with Digi’s I believe. But then they released an updated OS for AR with those improvements.

It obviously depends if older hardware can handle it. But there is a chance that some of these improvements will come to AR. We have to be a bit patient. They have just released this, so they will first iron out any issues. Then (if hardware supports it), they might add some of these things to AR.

remember that analogs got those updated envelopes and lfo graphics post release - i’m not a fan of those myself, but nonetheless it shows precedent - and yes by comparison, editing an Analog Rytm or OB-syntakt feels dull by comparison - these additions gradually worked in over the years do add something - and i think where possible there will be synergy across devices in terms of UI, but ā€˜where possible’ is teh key (along with time)

No song mode = hard pass for me.

You can absolutely use Class Compliant on PC and Mac as well.

Makes it easy to stream audio if you don’t want to bother with OB. Plug-and-play, like you say.

OB gives you a bunch of functionality over and above just streaming audio from device to computer.

i was just sold with the ā€œlast v8ā€-chiptune demo…
there are just three things bugging me:

  1. arp(?)
  2. did you ever try to read a red typo on black background in a situations with low light? itĀ“s a nogo because of the lack of contrast and generally for colourblind people. a good ui should be barrier-free in 2022…
  3. bought it! an hoping for a sample player machine…

So that is only two things bothering you.

Haven’t watched loopop, but @AdamJay shared a screenshot earlier from manual.

You can only stream one stereo ā€˜mix’ to USB class compliant audio. But you can configure what gets streamed: master, individual tracks (you can decide the combination of tracks, can even have one track go to left and another to right) or external in.
