My initial reactions, just skimming through the loopop vid: Seems like a decent amount of synth for the money, very versatile and clean sounding. However for my use case I just find the page-heavy workflow too fiddly; I briefly had a DN and ended up selling it because I realised I really wanted a more immediate hands on kind of synth, so I got the MEGAfm.

Stuff like the LFO assignment in most Elektron machines is just more cumbersome than it needs to be, not a problem for slow deliberate patch building, but for quickly creating a sound in the moment it’s less than ideal.

They certainly crammed in a bunch of features into this thing and I’m sure it’ll sell well. I’m just waiting for an OT successor tbh.

The M8 and Digitone II are both FM-based, that’s all I mean. I am hoping their engines are quite unique from one another.

With respect to multitimbral, if I send midi out from all 8 tracks on the M8 (theoretically), could I use 8 timbers? Most synths I look at are not multitimbral, so I am excited about this potential.

Thanks for the responses so far.

You would think it would at least have separate stereo outs per part.
Also no battery? And no built in speakers?
Keyboard is horrible too, like, no velocity or even polyphonic aftertouch?!
And this is digital, not analog, so basically a VST in a box.

What were they thinking.
Hard pass!

Just kidding. Looks amazing. Gonna sell my DT1 & DN1 for this

It’s almost too painful to watch that loopop comparison after I already blew all my spare money on gear this month. It’s a must buy, absolutely incredible set of features.

Yes, you could sequence 8 different tracks on the DNII from the M8.

Sure you can.
You can even layer tracks, getting 2 different sounds for each of your 8 midi tracks.

Hmm - no instant chord mode as on DN1 (root + chord type)?
Hopefully to be added soon.

The website lists velocity as a performance feature. Is this not for the keyboard? Edit: I missed the sarcasm.

That guy can sell ice cubes to the Eskimos. He’s so THOROUGH!! Really sets the bar high for reviewers with his details and explanations. I made the decision to buy right after I saw his review.

YES DN II looks FANTASTIC wow. I absolutely LOVED the sound of the original Digitone but after five years felt I’d had enough of working against the limitations of 4 tracks/8 voices and sold it. Sometimes limitations can inspire but in the case of the original DN I often found it more frustrating than not to run out of voices, or found myself wishing there were more tracks available. Also 128 steps - brilliant. I mostly work in 8 bar sections and being able to do everything in one pattern is much friendlier than pattern chaining. 16 tracks/voices, 128 steps, still maintaining that wonderful original Digitone sound but with new machines, filters, even adding BRR/SRR… I’d hoped Elektron might release a follow up to the DN after the DT II was released but could not have anticipated it would be as lovely as this. Thank you Elektron!! :3lektron:

”Ljud” is Swedish for ”sound” so basically ”sound lab” I guess :relaxed:

it’s a solid decision, there can’t be any discussion this DN II is purely awesome, nothing really new, but everything at its finest!

ooh thanks

I though somebody messed with my TV equalization…

I wonder if the Wavetone machine somewhat spells the end of the Analog Four. DNII seems fairly inspired by its big brother, with PMW for all waveforms and all…
I just got an Anlog Four last week, now should I let it go alongside my DN? :pensive:

I’m happy Elektron did this, I didn’t hope this coming that soon, and with so much interesting stuff besides upscaling to the DT II architecture!

Guess it’s time to upgrade my DT & DN !! (I was waiting for the DN II announcement to upgrade the DT first but god, Elektron shoots QUICK these times ahaha)

This is perfect. Thanks Elektron!
