You certainly haven’t thrown any hours away, because everything you learned on DN is applicable to DN2. Until you sell it, you haven’t lost a penny either. And why sell it, if it still does what you need it to do? Sure DN2 does more, but do you actually need it or is it just GAS? GAS can get expensive quickly, it’s not gear’s fault though
Great update ! Please, add Comb Filter for Syntakt ! ^^
i once read you lose no money when you keep your gear forever
besides my knobby digitone and -takt I I’m having such a blast with the ipad right now: Drambo; a real modular groove box, the Mutable Instruments effects, MPE, polyphonic micro tuning, midi effects, physical modeling, wavetable synths, Buchla FM, granular, spectral re synthesis, impulse responses, additive synthesis, koala sampler, eventide effects, insane analog emulation, great sounding overdrive/distorsion and all that with an interface that doesn’t need a cheat sheet… in the palm of my hand, battery driven
only thing I still want is a Digitakt II with a yellow screen
For those with an M8 Tracker, what would be the best companion if you had to choose one: Digitakt II or Digitone II? Is there too much overlap with either of these?
I know for sure it was time well spent, I mean if I could program sick drums in a single track imagine using 6 hehe. But still it feels bad losing flexibility with my setup just because now I can’t get rid of the DN if I feel like trying something else. Thanks for the encouragement!!
Exactly. Or you might even make some money, if you have the right gear. No way to know this in advance though…
Lol just when I thought I was out they pull me back in. I’ve had and enjoyed the Octatrack, Digitone and Syntakt over the years but sold them all.
Ordered mine immediately. Most excited about:
- more polyphony & tracks
- perform kit ( I hated not having something like this on the old one)
- FM drum machine
- bit rate / sample rate reduction (to get at least closer to that crunchy sega mega drive style FM)
- comb filter (sounds awesome from what I’ve hears of the digitakt 2)
- compressor / side chain (need my pumping chords…)
- just seems really fun to use on its own for making complete songs or jams without the need for other machines, both for melody and sound exploration
They have expressed interest in backporting some to the Digitakt1, I imagine some functionality may make it over to the Digitone1.
Nobody with any actual connection to Elektron has stated “there will be no more updates for OG”, the rumor mill is designed for maximum outrage
Why do you think either would be a replacement for a M8 Tracker? Apples to Oranges beyond that they’re all grooveboxes of some sort that can sequence their own engines.
Keep making music until you’ve got your 400€ worth, you’re not throwing 400€ in the trash unless you’ve actively decided to.
Oh wow. Nice. I had a very long working day and just saw this. Not sure if I make it through the Loopop video tonight. Why oh why can’t Elektron make a box that contains both DT and DN (yes, I know the answer)
I am not looking for a replacement to my M8 Tracker, but wondering what would be the best companion machine with it. I did ask if there would be too much overlap as I do not have a Digitakt or Syntakt, only the M8 Tracker.
what a machine. we truly live in a golden age of synthesizers.
Oops, my mistake.
The two offer complex FM or creative sampling.
Which is more difficult or under-explored for you, in the M8?
Audio mangling synthesis or pure tone generation and melodics/generated percussion?
I had wondered if they had contacted her for a pattern when I heard it.
Looks great, unfortunately for me the small form factor rules it out, but that aside
My local shop has a shipment coming in early next week…pre-order in! I can’t wait to have a go with this. When it arrives I may box everything up except it and my REV2.
That can happen. I gave my son a few instruments that I thought he’d love, and dig into. Turns out I had his style of making music a bit off. I gave him a couple of others after putting a bit more thought into how he’d use them, and he uses the new ones all the time. He’s very set in his ways as far as composing, sequencing, etc. so he likes physical instruments that are extremely immediate, and not too deep. So I stopped giving him things with deep sequencing, editing, etc. and started giving him things that are immediately tweakable that he can then sample, and use his own way.
Thanks, it really blows my mind how close it mimics an acoustic piano, especially when you hear the “naked” sound without the comb filter applied
For anyone who’s interested, here is the specific section linked:
I can’t wait to play this patch myself
This makes me want to go throw four hundred region appropriate money units in the trash.
does the ARP follow track scale?
