Introducing Digitone II

Ohhhhh. Instant buy. OG DN is already one of my favorite instruments. I also just ordered the new Vongon pedal so I have a lot to play with.

A trade in system would have been dope, i.e. send it to Elektron, they can build new maschines from the old, you get a discount for the old, they csn reuse parts… 2nd Hand markt stays stable … etc.

I think Rytm has got something magic - its raw sounds is quite unique - when it will be discontinued it will be very well requested on the second hand market.

A4 is also a keeper although 4 tracks are a bit limiting, but A4mk2 with its own dedicated output could be a keeper.

I would sell DN 1

So that we can break the internet again as with the polyend play+ trade in that even led to the end of huge YT channels. Amazing times :wink:

The only time I remember something like this happening was when Push 2 was released and Ableton accepted Push 1 trade-ins. I thought it was very cool of them.

DN2 keys when?

Yes, it was a good idea, they gave it to school programs, imagine that kids would learn on Digitakts, think about the future of your customer base.

Put seeds, and harvest.

It’s been what, six years since the original? I think that’s plenty of time for people to have learned, mastered, and used the original. It also hasn’t all of a sudden lost its abilities to do what it always has done, and got a few updates along the way. I always hate it when people complain about new things in this way. If you liked it before, you don’t have to hate it because something new came out. If you want the new one, get the new one. Makes no sense. I get the psychological internal reaction. The ā€œoh man, this one’s cooler, but I have the originalā€ but not the complaining about it. There are multiple valid solutions. Keep using the original. Sell it and buy the new one. Keep it and buy the new one. Sell the old one out of anger and don’t buy the new one. Buy the new one, and throw the old one in a dumpster or a barn, so someone can tell a story about how they found one there later. :stuck_out_tongue:

Bought my DN in March. I had time to learn it, reach its limitations and even to find some workarounds. At the same time saving and selling gear (got rid of the drumlogue just in time) to buy DTII. And now I feel like I’ve thrown 400€ in the trash, and also lots of hours spent with an obsolete machine. What should I do guys? Keep my now not so cool DN and keep saving for that DTII, try to sell the DN at a decent price and try to get a cheap DT and the DNII? stick to Ableton and get a copy of Battalion? or should I shell everything and buy a guitar so I can sing breakup songs about elektron. Sorry for sobbing in here guys, but had nowhere else to do it.

If we follow that sort of logic then Elektron should’ve stopped with the Sidstation. Wouldn’t want to make anyone jealous by creating new things!

Yes, fixed it. Thanks.

Can’t wait to hear more of how drums sound on it. 16 tracks makes it a big deal to me, I’m starting to think it might make sense to sell DN1 & ST to get DN2 in order to gain space

Get an iPad with Battalion (will come out, hopefully this year still)

I think I will stick to my Digitakt2 as my only hardware sequencer right now. Even think of going back to Octatrack again, because of midi retrig, midi arp. I’m impressed with the Digitone2, but I can’t afford another grand for things my computer can do too when I’m not lying to me.

I’m hyped, but I’m not shitting monies.

Because the existence of DNII makes it impossible to create music with other tools? Making music is creating and organizing sounds. The original DN can be used to create and organize sounds. How is it ā€œobsoleteā€?

One thing to bear in mind though is that you have to ā€œsacrificeā€ synth tracks to get MIDI tracks. I guess that’s not a problem since they have added 16 tracks to the DN II but since I have made many tracks that sequences an external synth I’ll have to keep that in mind. I also wonder if these MIDI tracks are fully imported when opening DN 1 projects on DN2.

hopefully, because I come from using daws and feeling knobs was a breathe of fresh air. Ipad is kind of in the middle, and maybe they even find a way of bouncing projects by tracks ad you can do on the DAW version (I think)

The original is still more advanced, and easy to use than its nearest counterparts. It’s one of the best FM synths around IMO provided one doesn’t need more complexity than 4-op. In which case the Essence exists. (or older Yamahas…) The DNII looks incredible. In fact, I do actually want one some day, but calling the original obsolete makes zero sense.

Continue saving until you can get DT2 and DN2, its the only way

Weird post. How is the digitone obsolete? Sure there is a new iteration, but when something new is released it doesn’t suddenly render its predecessor useless. I bet you update your iPhone every new release don’t you?
