"A performance on the Elektron Digitone II
Recorded in one take into Zoom M4.
Mastered in post. "
More specifically I was wondering if the sounds in that video were coming mostly from machines other than the OG Digitone sound engine.
Sure.
‘its not so cool anymore’ - what does it mean?
it is not the instrument that needs to be cool, it is the user that needs to create ‘cool’ sounds
you can create cool sounds with anything really! you do not need DIGITONE II to create cool sounds!
Ditching your Syntakt?

Has anyone tried and successfully transferred the Digitone keys presets via sysex. File to Digitone II? I tried but wasn’t successful so probably doesn’t work but would be cool if they could be confirmed.
Thanks !!! I would say about half of the sounds come from the FM machine … but also the new filters and the third LFO still tickle things out of the FM machine that are not possible with the OG DN. Especially the multimode filter sounds so great and creamy. But the swarmer machine (pad at the beginning) and the other new machines also sound fantastic.
I sold ST 24h after DN2 release, 30mn after buying DN2.
Will regret analog machines…
In any case, “deeper” tools for (drum) sound design are available on the DN II … the ST, on the other hand, allows faster and more direct tweaking of the sound
Yes, basic patch in a fresh pattern and default kit. No LFOs on anything.
Make sure you send both clock and transport from Digitone 2 to the Digitakt 2
Set R.STRT and ARM on the Digitakt 2 to start recording when playback starts and not on THRES
Hit play on Digitone 2 and that should start a synced sample on Digitakt 2
Richard Devine smashing it out;
In stock at SWEETWATER!
in stock at sweetwater LMAO
Another short example of translating Syntakt patches into Digitone II. SY SWARM to SWARMER is obviously pretty easy, but SY BITS can also be matched very closely with WAVETONE. Of course, Digitone II has more routing options, more filters, more LFO and destinations, more parameters, polyphony, arp, etc so the sound design can go a lot deeper. I have a lot of go to patches of my own creation on Syntakt, and good to know they can continue to find a home in Digitone II.
Just a heads up as I just learned this myself, if the tempos match, you don’t have to send clock. Unless you plan on doing tempo changes or are unsure of what tempo you want to work with.
Just another way to do it
I caved, your post put me over the edge. Incoming DNII.
a bunch of people will be angry at things that aren’t real.
So true. ![]()
A nice feature of the DN2 WaveTone which I thought could be given some more light is the ring mod & sync, which means that quite advanced and convincing SID-like stuff can be made. I wanted to try it out, so here I remade the first two minutes of the classic “Wastelands” from The Last Ninja on the C64. All made using WaveTone - and only three mono tracks, to match the original.
And the original, as a reference:
