Introducing Digitone II

Sysex imports don’t work at the moment. Devs are working on implementing it.

My little contribution. Mostly 1 Track from DN II.

Wow 🫡

It works for projects at least but I guess it doesn’t work for sounds. Thanks :relaxed:

FM-Drum is by far my fav new machine, so much fun!
Wavetone is great to create analog-ish bass/sounds quickly.
OG FM with SRR/Comb+1 more LFO brings quite a lot of new colors.

First time in a long time we get Retrig and master comp in a “synth” line.
And on the other side, 1st time we get arp and polyphony (+note edit) in a “drum machine” line.

Note edit is such a game changer. Being able to go between the steps (either only the one already set or all the steps one by one) makes editing notes so easy and quick. Doesn’t have to be a chord to be useful!

Key tracking should bring a lot too!

DN2 is MD level stuffs but with all the new features added over the years, it’s a classic already.

Can you transpose the keyboard when in Note Edit mode? I can’t figure out how. Thanks!

Don’t seem you can. I read the manual for this section and transpose but couldn’t find a way to transpose individual notes or chords via note edit. If it’s not might be worth a feature request

edit: if you meant the keyboard position, transpose buttons work in note edit mode.

You can transpose the keyboard in keyboard edit mode…

Totally agree

You can say this about literally any piece of hardware. In my view, it’s more powerful than any single vst

This was one of the most exciting features for me. It feels crazy to have synthesis power like this in a poly Elektron box

Played a bit with the FM-Drum machine & creating strings like stuff with OG FM & the comb+ so don’t mind the weird cheesy matchup. piano sound is one of the preset (studying the presets is the fastest way to learn these new machines and possibilities).

No p-locking, no sound-lock, just plain old step programming. I didn’t even used all the voices but it was so nice to have so many tracks and not having to think about how to fit it all in 4 tracks(This is a know-how that will still be useful to push the machine even further but it makes for easier programming and well, muting individual elements or… try something on an empty track and choose or switch between the elements in one pattern!)

That’s amazing. May I request a long video on how you created the pattern, both the sounds on the DN2 and your process musically?

(Basically you transcribed it, I would love to have you talk through that in a video!)

As we in the US think they say in France: “Chapeaux!”

Question about FM Drum machine, as it’s not super obvious to me from the manual : can you have a sustain stage for notes, and does it work with external midi ? Like on the Rytm, if you set hold to the minimum, it keeps the note length. Thanks !

:point_up_2: Crazy Hat Maker here

So mine was just delivered today. Spent the day mostly sound designing and exploring the new machines, overall I think this is Elektron’s most complete self-contained groove box. It’s weird though, there was something cool about the OG Digitone and all the plocking and creative/hacky ways of making compositions sound full with only 4 tracks that I’ll kinda miss. There was a time before 128 steps and song modes and all that polyphony where you had to kind of make the most out of patterns that really felt like playing an instrument.

Oh well, at the end of the day Elektron over delivered what i wanted out of a new Digitone, and i can’t imagine needing another digital poly for a long long time.

pretty basic pattern, but sound designing went really smooth and I love having a master comp!
