Introducing Digitakt

Is there a possibility that overbridge wil be used to get to the computers cpu for the synth engines?

Cenk and Zappa!

Does this have the same rytm analog drive and filter?

This is DIGItal! - So no.

Let’s se how playable it will be. I would be happy to leave my AR in the studio, and take much more affordable instrument for live PA! It would be awsom if they included at least two more individual outputs, but still it is very interesting instrument worth to try!

As Jonas Hillman (CEO/owner Elektron) stated in this short interview …
https://youtu.be/KSb65g6CAmE
… “we have launched 3 products in 4 months now” & “for this year it is only the beginning, we will start launching more products than you will ever believe”.

I think Elektron has begun taking a completely new route:

  • pre-OverBridge, Elektron was aimed primarily towards the live performance market;
  • with OverBridge (which is essentially hardware/DAW integration), Elektron is also steering towards studio usage;
  • Analog Heat and Digitakt have a new smaller form factor and updated interface;
  • the price level has dropped roughly 50% as compared to OT / AR / A4;
  • the feature set of Digitaktwas also downsized as compared to OT / AR / A4;
  • people are comparing Digitakt to the AR/MD/OT feature-wise, dubbing it “OT junior”, but I think Digitakt and Analog Heat are simply the first modular products of a whole new modular Elektron product line. A bit like Korg, but with full OverBridge/DAW integration.

To me this is really exciting! Personally I’m not into live music performance, yet I like to polish / arrange / effect automate my tracks in a DAW into a finished song. I’ve always gelled with the Elektron step sequence and parameter lock approach: I’ve owned an MDUW, MNM, own an OT, tweaking away and composing the basis of a techno track in minutes on Elektron devices. And I’ve always hated not being able to quickly and easily transport my songs over to the DAW for arranging / effect automation. Personally I don’t really like the sound engines of A4 / AR, so I haven’t gotten into those despite them being OverBridge enabled.

But now…! I really hope there indeed will be a whole new “modular” OverBridge-enabled Elektron line!

  • Digitakt for digital (drum) sampling;
  • Analog Heat for analog warmth;
  • “DigiFX” for the “Scenes”-part of the OT;
  • “DigiTone” for digital melodic synthesizing (like MNM / Virus?);
  • modular trimmed-down versions of the AR and A4

Time will tell… but I like what I’m seeing!

I always loved using the Mono as a midi controler.

Why would they say it’s a “drum machine”, “drum computer” with “sampling capabilities” if it was only a sampler???

Maybe they just wanted to add the word “drum” to clarify that it’s not a sampler like OT. But could of just been “drum sampler”.

Also the fact that it has start end and loop parameters means that the digitakt can definitely do single cycle waveform style synthesis which is cool for such a cheap drum machine.

I usually run all my gear off the :elmm: midi sequencer. The :elmd: just pattern syncs but I sequence a System-1, TR-8, DX7 and Microgranny off it. Really easy with a midi controller keyboard.

I think it looks pretty cool. Good price point, the great sequencer features and a great entry point to the Elektron world for people who dont want to spend ( or havent got it to spend ) on their other more expensive equipment. Plus midi sequencing. Whether or not its for you depends on needs and expectations i guess. Teasers have an unfortunate side effect of building expectations that most of the time cannot be met for everyone. Having an OT means, for me, i dont have a need for it in my setup. In reality do i have a ‘need’ for any of it? But id still like one of course haha!!! Just my tuppence worth. :slight_smile:

It says it has a sound engine in the main description of the elektron website.

I really dont get the confusion. Its all said before.

If i understand correctly they are working on the engines and the software, but its deff a drumsynth

Because in the videos they clearly refer to it as a sampler.

I really hope they consider this as a master effect its not taking anything away from other products features.

@Ess, time to step in on this one with some clarity?

Best of both worlds, personally i trust the text on their site more than the words of a video. When the specifications say its: “A digital and highly flexible sound engine, sampling capability, a live-friendly sequencer, the means to control external MIDI gear”

I read engine as a sound source.

Its clear to me based on the product description. It is written there black and white.

If it does have synth engine its totally different product and I’m interested to grab one.
