Congrats on launch and thanks for chiming in here and there. I hope you guys can do some kind of product design Q/A when the dust has settled. Would be interested to hear what design choices went into DTII - especially since the word on the street is that this on a different platform than previous hardware.
Crazy to think how ahead of time akai was with the 16 levels. For sure it had an impact on electronic music throughout the decades
Does anyone think itās possible they allow for 128 steps in a future firmware update for the Syntakt and Digitone?
Got to say, the list of new features for the DT2 is significantly longer than my own wishlist for all the things I wanted the DT to do. It is an amazing step up. Stoked. Solid work, Elektron.
Stereo sampling was top of my list as was some kind of stereo modulation effect. All the other stuff on top of that is just so good. Definitely the new centrepiece of my setup alongside the Syntakt. Pre-order going into Andertons as soon as I can work out how to pay for it!
Only thing missing for me (and I think others in this thread) is the ability to adjust slice positions in the Grid machine. That would be so good, but then I guess thereād be an impact on OT sales. OT may be seriously elderly next to the DT2 but it still brings a lot to the party.
Iām also thinking Iāll hold onto my OG DT if I can and turn it into a poly sampler with the Retrokits setup. That could be pretty cool. Either that or use it as my old school drum machine while the shiny new DT2 plays out big fat stereo pads and sampled beats. Doesnāt feel right to sell my old Digitakt somehow, itās become an extension of my brain these past few years. Iām hopeless at selling bass guitars too, once I fall in love with a bit of kit I kind of hold onto it forever.
There is now a 4 parameter mod matrix for āMODWHEELā āBREATHā and āAFTERTOUCHā. You can set the mod depth, bipolar, for up to 4 parameters. This is for each of the above. Using an external controller, you can send the respective control to the DTII to use the above as macros.
These were not available on the DT before. Only on DN (Maybe ST as well? I donāt own one).
Add to this, the filters now have keyboard tracking.
To anyone that has one:
Does it still autonormalise on sampling?
Can you turn that off?
Is the high end bump from digitakt 1 still there?
Can you turn it off?
Are the button still coated in that soft touch stuff?
The main appeal for me is actually the 8 bar sequencer. Iād be interested in this more for its midi sequencing. 3 LFOs per track is very good to see.
I made a tutorial for beginners. Yāall pretty hard core in here, so you probably know most of it just by knowing the original. Looking to do a more advanced followup. Let me know what advanced workflows or questions you might have.
Digitakt 2 - Beginnerās MEGA TUTORIAL
@cuckoo I is better slicing coming in an update?
Can anyone who has one answer this?
If you remove a track from the main outs using the audio routing menu (manual p. 79, āTO MAINā) does it still go to the headphones? Or are the headphones a copy of the main outs like they seemed to be on DT1? (I ask because on the next page of the manual it mentions routing audio to both main and headphones, but makes no mention of headphones under the TO MAIN section.)
Oh, very nice!
Yes.
No.
Uncertain but Iām sure some folks will test. Not something that would be toggle-able though if it was present (I would assume).
Yes.
also does the track Scaling feature now have increased resolution,
I have no idea. But Iād love to see it, and I would use it a lot for on-device sample editing. Also itās a way of saving memory, when combining short and long slices in one sample.
Really helpful walkthrough @cuckoomusic - thank you! It would be good to dig a bit deeper into the MIDI capabilities. MIDI learn and CC naming look super cool. Are there any other major differences between the MIDI machine in the DT2 and the MIDI machine in the Syntakt? Also a bit more of an in-depth look at the new sequencer options (Euclid etc) would be great.
I have only two questions. Why canāt it have four outputs? Why?
Oh, maybe on the new platform⦠Would be nice for sure
Apart from physical space limitations it would probably start to encroach too much into OT territory and Elektron like to segment their devices a lotā¦
