I fink the way they called it digitakt 2 rather than mk2 might mean OG digitakt won’t necessarily get updates in the same way A4 & AR mk1 have done.
disclaimer: I could be totally wrong tho hey

I’m not entirely sure the labelling hints as much towards that as it does emphasise that the newer one is stereo - i can imagine that boardroom meeting on the semantics of Mk2 vs 2 or MKII vs II and that the elegance of dropping MK would win out as a nod to stereo
i could also be totally wrong tho hey, i just have a different take on the name … the potential issue for legacy users may well be more related to a shift in development, but then again, all the other current gear is on the old legacy platform so it’s no step change … time will tell
All this page suggests is that it is no longer in production, not that it is “EOL” for updates.
Obviously some features will be supported on the new embedded platform going forward.
But, supportable work could be backported at some point after the 2 is stabilized.
Got to say, seems unlikely to me that they would backport features to the DT1. Bug fixes maybe, but features? I can hear the complaints already. “You gave us X from the DT2 but you didn’t give us Y. ?!? I don’t understand how this is possible in 2024 etc, etc”
Does the Digitakt II have it’s own thread and is this it as there isn’t much activity here compared to some instrument threads?
I’d been looking at Elektron gear again recently after deciding I wanted to try something fresh. Originally I was looking at the Rytm 2 and Analogue Four mk2, but then I watched a couple of Digitakt II videos that really impressed me and i’ve just bought one. I haven’t used any Elektron gear since selling my Digitakt maybe 5 or 6 years ago due to not really using it much while I had it, plus when I did use it, I was spending too much time building perhaps unremarkable loops and not really achieving much, but now maybe i’m ready to embrace it.
I’m really hoping I can use this on my lap as that I how I prefer to make music these days, but I never tried to use it that way with the OG. Curious to know if people have tried to use it that way?
Would also like to know roughly how long the cable is from the brick to the barrel, to know whether or not to buy an alternative connection similar to what I use with some other gear? I have currently added 2 cables to my basket on a site right now which should offer a freer working method.
I’m sure more questions will follow.
It has it’s own “bugs” and “features” threads, but otherwise, it’s all mixed in with the DT1 content.
Oh, also -> Share Digitakt II Beats here ✌🏽
Ah, I guess it does make more sense having an Elektron part of the forum and Digitakt sub part of the forum rather than a specific thread given the majority of the forum are Elektron users and having seen how many posts individual topics are receiving now i’ve looked at it. It would make it easier to read and add to specific topics too. I’ve been oblivious to most of the Elektron posts since being in the wilderness, so have forgotten how the Elektron part works.
I’m still in the watching tutorials stage. I’ve watched half of Cuckoo’s 2 hour long walk through so far and there’s a lot to take in, so i’m not likely to be posting beats against long term users for at least some time, but thanks anyway.
Sure, edited and let’s get nuanced.
I know it’s just vibe, I have some amount of trust that Elektron will give original owners some benefit in shifting prioritization to the 2. Certainly a bugfix update.
While companies talking about some stuff can stir up and inflame entitled GAS-wranglers, I think grown-ups can take their wants into account while ignoring whatever “emotional truth” has them rant-ing over music-ing like someone kicked their dog.
As someone who’s posted on that thread since it’s started (and posted lots of badly mixed WIP and loops and one pattern riffs), I’ve got nothing but positive feedback so certainly don’t hesitate from sharing if you come up with something cool!
If you’re gonna use it on your lap, I’d also consider getting a deck saver and using like this. Never thought of it before but saw this photo this morning and was like 🫨
Is there currently any possibility to render a digitakt song-masteroutput into a daw or something like this via usb?
Yes. Newer Elektrons are USB CLASS COMPLIANT.
I tested with iOS and Android.
on windows (in bitwig) i can only use the WASAPI driver which doesn’t offer me any input channels
Thanks. It actually doesn’t feel too bad on my lap, so all good.
I’ve bought an aftermarket cable for the freedom too, so the psu cable issue is a moot point.
Just bought one from Music Matter in UK, 10% off in their summer sale. Got it for £762.
Asio4all?
I’d been creating a template project with tracks setup for all my external gear, the right MIDI channel, and bunch of useful CC mapped (picking the “best” 16 CC’s often took ages!)
Then I had an small epiphany, presets! It’s great that MIDI tracks can also be saved as a preset too
That’s great! Is that possible to export/import?
the honeymoon period is over and the dtII is packed away for the time being
i was able to emotionally articulate my disenchantment when placing a perfectly bpm-aligned loop into grid mode’s linear locks and still somehow getting clicks and pops that could not be extinguished by an attack envelope or any other workaround commonly suggested
for all intents and purposes, digitakt 2, like its predecessor, is still a one-shot machine
taking this into consideration, is it a genuinely thoughtful or creative innovation to just double the tracks? does anyone need 16 tracks for one-shots?
does it strike anyone as cynically sales-driven to restrict the few updated sequencer conditions to the dt2? as if it could not be sold on its intrinsic merits, but only by what the other machines now lack?
is it not just a little disappointing that the best elektron could come up with is basically just squeezing two digitakts together and calling it “digitakt 2”?
i’m sure people more talented than myself will make amazing music with it- i look forward to taking it out of storage when some updates hopefully make it a little more serious
