Does the solo kit work with the metropolis or only the metropolix?
Only Metropolix. The former doesn’t have the connections to use it.

- New: Set the Root Note with a MIDI Note On Message.
- New Global Setting for setting the “MIDI Root Ch.”
- Changes the Root Note Setting to the last received Note on the specified MIDI Root Channel.
- Since we are changing the setting, the latest changes will be saved to state and when you save a preset.
- Does not affect Custom Scales, since they are configured with their own specific root note.
- New: Load Presets with MIDI Program Change messages.
- New Global Setting: MIDI PC (Program Change) Ch.
- MIDI program change messages 0-63* will select Metropolix presets 1-1 to 8-8 (bank-slot) on the configured channel.
*Note: Your software or device may display the program numbers as 1-64. - Presets will be loaded according to the Load/PC Delay option on the Preset Load screen.
- Program Changes will be ignored if a Preset Chain is running, or the Preset does not exist yet.
- New: Immediate RESET/RUN behaviour.
- RUN and RESET now happen immediately when the button is pushed. The old Click/Hold-Release behaviour has been removed.
- Internal clock: RUN will start immediately, resetting the phase of the internal clock.
- Internal clock: ALT+RESET will Reset immediately, also resetting the phase of the internal clock.
- New: “Reset Input” mode, “Run-C” or Run-Continue. Which does not Reset the sequence when the input signal goes low. You can use the RESET button for a manual reset.
- Tweak: When Root is assigned to a CTRL knob, the range is ±12 Semitones instead of ±11, allowing you to reach the next octave.
- Tweak: When Root modulated via AUX or MOD Lane upwards beyond +1 octave (>=1V), the root note will wrap at 1 octave higher, similarly when you modulated downwards beyond -1 octave (<=1V), the root will wrap around at an octave lower.
- Tweak: No “Pitch Pop-up” when you are on the “Pitch” Home view, allowing you to dial in and see all the stage pitches as you adjust them.
- Tweak: Increased encoder acceleration for most edit pages. Parameters and Menus with a small range are not accelerated.
- Fixed: Root/Scale display was incorrect if Root was adjusted but not confirmed.
- Fixed: Modulation on Root Note is reflected correctly on A/B outputs, as well as the “Bottom Pitch” setting when set to “Root”.
- Fixed: Late modulation on some position related parameters. (Stages Len, Stages Offset, Loopy Offset)
- Fixed: UNDO functions were not working on the Mod Lanes and Track CV pages.
- Fixed: Decreased the brightness of the “DIM” state of LEDs for more contrast (most noticeable on Presets Page).

UGH…now I need one of these again.
Considering the Metropolix Solo, but I have one concern: how hard is it to remove the module from the enclosure? It uses a board-to-board connection (no ribbon cable, for some reason), so I’m wondering how easy it is to detach it safely without stressing the pins/PCB. Has anyone here done it and can share tips?
I had to take mine apart because my computer froze during a firmware update and I needed to access a button on the back panel. It’s not too bad, but you definitely need to be careful with it — lift gently and straight upwards, with a little bit of side-to-side motion to loosen the pins. IIRC you can also detach the MIDI jacks beforehand and lift the whole thing straight out, giving you a lot more control over the process.
I wouldn’t do it for fun, but it’s not overly stressful if you ever need to take it apart!

I’ve been quite happy using it with Ableton Move, which can record sixteen-bar clips. That’s enough time to make good use of the accumulators and randomization on Metropolix. The downside is that it doesn’t support MIDI CC input (yet?), so the mod lanes are a little limited. But it’s still a nice little combo! And you can get up and running in a matter of seconds, which I always value.
I haven’t gotten into the second sequencer or drum trigger parameters yet — I hit a “too much gear, not enough time/talent” brick wall in late 2025. But learning Metropolix is a priority for me this year, so I’ll be sure to share any cool tricks I find!

The second sequencer is really fun when I can get something good happening
I’m very focused on live-tweaking sounds and maximizing the range of sound I can get. The Typhon seems like a good match for the tweaking part.
I am feeling the pull to build a performance modular case with the metropolix, knobula monumatic, and an oxi Meta. But even that is approaching $1,000 and only has one voice at a time.

I picked up a Metropolix Solo in late December and just spent the month of January learning how to use it by pairing it with my Syntakt. It’s a great way to add improvised note changes to the Syntakt that are quantized to scale (something that I don’t think is currently possible on the Syntakt itself). Fingers crossed that it gets added via an update but for now the Metropolix solves the problem for me. So I am using the Metropolix for two tracks of melodies and a couple of other Syntakt tracks for drums. Works really well and is great for improvising.
For the month of February, I’ll be testing the Metropolix with my 0-Coast. I think that will be a good fit as well.

I like what you did and since sequence manipulators are unusually digital in nature. These codes could appear built into the Syntakt too?
