Intellijel Metropolix

You’re not wrong at all.
You could for instance run it in a 4ms pod case.

The 1.4 update brings USB MIDI and some other new tricks to the Intellijel Metropolix. We’ll explore these features and more in Ableton Live 11.

The Metropolix 1.4 update will be released on Feb 11 following the stream.

Cool! This might be the thing that tips me over. Could be cool to use this to sequence midi gear as well.

it’s live

Faderfox SC4. It’s a midi sequencer with 8 knobs, you have 1 melodic tracks and 7 others that can be sequencing CCs, gate, probability, length per step (from 1 pulse to 8), repeat per step, chord, etc… You can store 8 patterns of 8 steps per save. The sequencer can jump & mute the steps. There is forward, backward, pendular & random playing of the sequence. All of the tracks can be randomized by pushing a button. Pitch can be set to three scales (chromatic, minor, major). I use it with a CV.OCD midi/cv convertor to sequence a Dreadbox Dysphonia and it’s awesome !

I did the update last night and was sequencing Ableton in minutes. This is a game changer for the Metropolix. The midi implementation seems really crisp and it feels more accurate than using a cv/midi converter or VCV.

Two mono channels of midi, velocity per note, plus 8 channels of independent midi cc locked to the incredibly deep Metropolix sequencer.

Plus we also get storable patches for the first time…

You could always save presets. Now you can back them up with SYSEX. You can even choose what to back up; only presets with data in them, preset bank by Color, or everything at once. There’s also a firmware upgrade mode so no more having to pull the module to upgrade.

FYI they released 1.4.1 shortly afterwards to address a bug.

Would it be mad to put this in a case just to sequence two voices of my A4? :upside_down_face:

Not at all. It’s a devilishly good sequencer.

This POD40X from 4MS is all you would need. . Plus the module to expose the USB port in the back. You could just run the cable out of the empty space in the case though.

And a USB MIDI host of course. You can make one with a Raspberry Pi. I have the link just don’t want to dig it up while I’m laying in bed using my phone to reply.

It’s interesting to see how midi is barging in huge to Modular. I love it!

I’ve been hoping for this for so long. Enjoying the FH-2, the Pitts Midi2, Doepfer A-192-2, Erica Midi>CLK, Ladik Trig/Gate to Midi.

This intellijel update is great!

Is there anything equivalent to this sequencer in desktop format? It looks awesome to pair with the cascadia but I have zero euro rack and don’t want to open that door!

It looks like the Metropolix is 34hp, just get the 4ms Pod 34X powered case, drop it in, and it’s standalone desktop.

it should fit perfectly in a Pod34X by 4ms.

Didn’t know this was a thing! This is great, thank you! It’s really as simple as getting it and putting it in this case, and it’s good to go?

Yes, just make sure you get the powered case, not the unpowered version. Also, check the 4ms website, you may have to buy the power supply yourself which shouldn’t be an issue. But looking at the specs, the Pod 34X is 55mm deep, and the Metropolix is 25mm, so it should fit fine.

Edit: There is a link on the 34X web page to purchase the power supply.

Smart move, though Cascadia is a – well, I would call it a gateway drug, but heroin is not a gateway drug.

I sometimes move my Metropolix from my main case to a pod, works great. I would recommend putting it in a POD40X with the USB expander as someone else mentioned above, or just run a cable from the back through the empty space. There isn’t any space to run it through in a 34X without drilling a hole or something.

Also a 4hp blank panel to fill the rest of the space, or could fill it with the GX gate expander.
