I like the service but I don’t understand the Marketing choice of the name Bandcamp as anything with the word camp in it is culturally not taken seriously, and the word Bandcamp is literally a combination of words that historically has always given off a not so serious vibe. When you’re seeking money to be spent by the public at large I don’t think ‘Bandcamp’ vibes from your junior high school is the first thought you want to give people… it’s just a weird choice for a very serious company that provides a serious service to title itself under especially a kind of service like this that depends on proper marketing so much…
whenever I see it it immediately reminds me of two things 1. band camp when I was a kid and 2. puff daddy the band … and neither of those vibes represent the scale and quality of the service itself, I’m not a student of marketing though so does anybody know why that was a good idea?
I think they’ve made it their own to be honest. Maybe that’s why they named it Bandcamp, they wanted to give off a different energy than a flashy music conglomerate?
I dunno, I don’t mind it. I love Bandcamp and pretty much everything that’s happening there so maybe I’m just a fan boy.
that’s the thing, I’m a fanboy of theirs too but the name not so much… I don’t think they need to go flashy music conglomerate though cause that wouldn’t fit, I think they could come up with something that’s down to earth but doesn’t have the same vibe as cub scouts
and even though I agree they’ve made it their own there is still this after taste because of what Bandcamp still means everywhere else in society
you guys are probably right but look at it this way, only one more person has to think the same thing and it will at least matter as much as it doesn’t…
Me and my best mate used to live together before I went to University. We spent about 6 months high as balls watching American Pie pretty much on repeat on Sky Movies.
