I lost my dog this afternoon

Not music related but about one of my dogs Cooper. Couple of days ago my boy Cooper started being sick whilst out in the park and could hardly walk . He’s a heavy solid boy for a Cockapoo. Back in 2013 I got him and his sister from a breeder both born 05/12/2013 there was only 2 pups and I wasn’t taking one without the other so I brought them both home with me.
However I had a routine vets appointment this morning and also asked why he’d be sick all of a sudden on a walk so they did some blood tests this morning at the vet.
At 2pm I got a call to bring him back where I was told he had a massive tumour in his stomach and that he wouldn’t last a few more days I was like “WTF this was just a checkup” but even tho he was a fit boy he was 13yrs old and so I took the decision to take the vets advice. I had about 20 minutes with him whilst his sister played with him a bit then the vet came and asked if I’m ready. I said reluctantly ok… I held my Cooper as the needle went in, it was fast within seconds he was gone. What hurt the most is that he had recently went deaf and I thought the poor guy doesn’t even know what’s happening to him. I walked in to that vets today with 2 dogs and came out with 1…
Absolutely devastated.
I’ll be sure to make a fuss of his sister as she’s also 13yrs old but both were fit dogs you never know what’s around the corner.
So tonight there’s me and the baby girl and Ava my German Shepard missing our boy

R.I.P Cooper 05/12/2013 - 15/09/2026 :broken_heart:

I was gonna post a picture of him asleep but didn’t want to stress anyone.

Thanks

I’m very sorry, and although he didn’t know what was happening, I’m sure he felt much better to have those who’ve brought him such happiness with him.

If you want to share photos, please do, especially if it helps you process things.

I’m so sorry. Went through this a couple years ago, I understand the pain. It’s so important that you were there with him in his final moments, as difficult as that was.

There are no words to express truly the sorrow, I’m very sorry. I can tell that he was very loved and that you gave him the best life you possibly could. I had a similar experience with my 14-y.o. dog a couple of months ago and it was completely devastating. I reverted to elementary school levels of emotional regulation for awhile. Embrace his memory and be graceful with yourself.

It’s awful losing pets. May your pain subside as soon as it can and your love for him only grow x

Absolutely feel you. I had to put one of my dogs to sleep for very sad reasons. He died in my arms, looking me in the eyes. I held him for another 30 minutes, crying, and I never had a dog again because it was so traumatic.

Of course you would wish for more time with your sweet friend, and endings like this are so hard to go through. But I can tell you have a warm heart, and because of that your dog had a happy life with you. You surely shared a lot of love and many great moments together. He left this world as a happy dog, off to dog heaven.

RIP Mr. Cooper!

I’m so sorry Rob, that’s hard. Had a similar experience about 10 years ago with our Dachshund Molly… as difficult as it is, I feel that it’s important to be there for them at the end. R.I.P. Cooper
