Try not to make anything you find too precious at first.
Be fearless in your exploring and making mistakes.
DONT try and learn everything, just what you want at that moment.
After you get the hang of a few things, it should gel a little better.
The more you work on the box itself, not much else, the better your muscle memory and process will become.
Dont give up too early, and dont worry if you are only using the OT for specific things.
It does specific things REALLY good!
You can also achieve different sample, same track different pattern, by using sample locks.
I tend not to use this feature though, because there is no on screen visual cue that it is happening unles you press trig +yes
If I have 4 drum loops all with a different fill variation I would want to use in a chorus and then say 8 loops with different fill variations for a verse… I should maybe look into sample lock, - 4 parts might not get it done for me.
Only you can answer that.
Experiment and see what works best for you.

I am going through the process as you described @Microtribe but nevertheless, when I load the sample on a flex machine, the slices are there indeed but not in the “random” manner I had previously saved.
To clarify.
When saving sample settings, the slices will be saved.
When you use ‘create random locks’ that function generates random slice Plocks onto the trigs you have on your sequencer lane.
The order in which they occur on the sequencer lane, is part of pattern data, not sample data. So that information is saved in the pattern. Eg your random slice sequence.
So. If you like the random pattern and want to save that for use elsewhere, resample that pattern as a new sample loop.
Massive stereo samples. And I do mean massive. Ive used stereo samples in excess of 1 hour long as foley for live shows. flex machines cannot do this, not enough RAM.
Freeing up RAM for recorder buffers.
If you do lots of realtime recording, any other samples can be loaded to static machines.
When you dont need the benefits of RAM eg fast modulation, static machines operate inexactly the same way as flex. Aside from the audio editor.
They are both useful. How you use them is up to you.
I know there is a condition whereby the slices are retained only in a track. Right? Meaning: they don’t go with the sample. Different tracks can retain their own slices.
How is that workflow accomplished? I’ve RTFMed but in the context of the thread, I think this could be useful. Also could be wrong / mistaken, of course.
I’d probably approach this by creating a sample chain from those, then getting busy with conditional trigs for the slices. Would be a lot more managable than juggling various separate files
Yeah I thought about recording longer loops and plock the start points on their perspective patterns, I haven’t dived in that far but I’m concerned looking for that start point (and getting proper sync) is going to be as tedious just recording 7 or 8 loops (and use good naming convention) and then just sample locking the loops to new patterns. I’ll give it a try though - it would definitely keep my sample count down.
Progress yesterday was good - successfully sampled a bunch of loops, used sample locks, used the midi sequencer to sequence the bass station, midi learn and sequence cc to bass station parameters, made a simple 6 pattern arrangement. Not bad for only having it 3 days. Loving the OT!
