It was for me, that’s why I ordered the KB
Arrives Monday!
An advantage for the HSD is with the Pad Modes, that allows different arrangements,of the notes — in particular with the.Fretboard arrangement, for anyone who’s a string instrument player.
I think ASM did well having two related but different Hydrasynths, sitting in very different market prices.
I love using Chord Mode with a Key and Scale set.
Have fun AdamJay !
I’m all tapped out on space for keyboards so…
but I love how they really took the randomization features into sculptable sound design territory
You play keyboards then, or at least you’re not intimidated by it.
It’s a lot of work, and some expense, but you should at least consider the option of swapping one of your other keyboards out for it’s equivalent desktop version (assuming there is one), and using the HSK instead. Poly-aftertouch, and MPE in a traditional keyboard arrangement is very useful, even for anyone with only moderate keyboard skills.
Just another option if you’re serious about picking up a Hydrasynth.
unfortunately it’s not possible with my other synths but I concur with the sentiments for sure
Oh shit…yer stoked
Yer gonna love it man.
Got my HS KB yesterday.
I bought a demo unit from Perfect Circuit that came with 3 patch banks filled, so I guess the Inhalt patches are not yet on it. Will be going through the Manager software and isolating the better patches.
I figured 5 banks would be enough but this thing is so deep and capable, especially with FX modulation. Makes me glad the couple of third party packs I was interested in checking out are only 32 patches or so.
My advice to any new HS owner is to NOT fill up all 5 banks right away (unless you don’t really care to create patches from scratch). The 3 default and 2 freebee packs (I think there’s a 3rd now) on the ASM site are full of goodies, but it’s honestly a bit annoying to manage patches once they’re on the device. I did not leave a free bank, and constantly wish that I had just left one open for sound design. Not a big deal to just init and rename, but I much prefer a nice orderly bank of blanks that I can just start raw with, instead of hunting for something loaded that I’m not interested in to write over.
I’d be interested in your impressions of the keyboard relative to other units.
Good advice.
I posted an empty bank up thread, so you can store off a bank, and clear a whole bank, at a time if you’d like, to get around this. (This issue has tripped a few people already.)
I need to do some weeding now. I also find myself making stuff for fun and just letting it go, i can always create something else again later. (Easy come, easy go.)
Some of the premade patch banks are quite nice.
Yea, I definitely won’t be filling it up with other patches, but more finding the cream of the crop so that I can collapse it all into one or two banks, leaving more room for my own stuff.
After some time, no problem.
Thanks! Of course time is needed for a thorough assessment. Looking forward to what you have to say.
After posting I checked my laziness, created a proper bank of my keepers using your blank bank to fill in the gaps, and now my E is (mostly) open for sound design. I think that I thanked you when you originally posted it, but if not, I’ll do it now/again. Thanks Jukka!
Another small thing about patch banks, i think i‘ve mentioned this before, ASM doesn’t include factory banks A, B, and C on their online patch bank download store. So save those off first thing before you go mucking about.
They’re actually included in the Packs folder that the manager creates on your computer. As long as you don’t mess with those, you’re good to go
You can get the factory patches from their website.
Yeah, I did this, cropped it into two banks. Slow pain in the arse, but worth the effort.
Was this improved in an update? Because I’ve been doing this all weekend with good results (kb chord mode + phrase mode, usually 4 note chords, also 8 note chords just to see if i could overload it)
