From where did you order it?
Since all the covid stuff emerged there´s been a lot of issues with ordering just about anything from anywhere. If you ordered from the manufacturer for example, they might have problems with getting the components needed to build the synth, for example. Or just getting it delivered from overseas might fail because the low amount airline traffic at the moment, with all the travel restrictions in place - it also affects delivery services i´m sure…
That’s a common feeling. If it doesn’t float your boat, i’d move on.
As to ease of use killing creativity – there is so incredibly much to this thing, i really appreciate being able to get to things quickly and cleanly.
Sorry to hear you’re having these problems. They are popular and sell fast. Just checked Sweetwater here in the USA. The HSK is “ON ORDER”. And the HSD “IN STOCK” !
I’m getting yanked around right now by a seller on the SubHarmonicon, but that’s another topic. I keep reminding myself – “First World Problem”.
The HSD from Bax. But Thomann and other retailers are the same… it is always 2 weeks or more. I guess it has to do with the Corona thing.
3 in stock here fast delivery
Thnx!
The guys from Jack And the falcon. That bloke cracks me up. But will let it go. Would like it from a retailer “close” by in the Netherlands. so if something is wrong I can return easily.
I listened to a ton of demos, and it was those that kept we away from it for a while. I was then at a
local store that had one when I went to pick something else up, and had a play with it for an hour, and couldn’t leave the store without taking one home with me. Still loving it, and enjoying it very much. It was soo different to all the demos I’d heard/watched.
I also got an Argon8 around the same time and was planning on deciding which one to keep, and which to return, and ended up keeping both because I couldn’t bring myself to part with either. If I had to sell one of them, it would be the Argon 8. Not that I don’t love it, but I enjoy programing the Hydra more, and feel like it’s a lot more flexible.
The Subharmonicon stock is all over the place. My order got pushed to end of May by one retailer that messed up my order, so I cancelled, and did a preorder with another retailer that said May 22nd. I ordered it, and 2 hours later I got a shipped notification…called the retailer just to make sure it wasn’t an error, and they confirmed it was shipped. Will be here Sunday. Bizarre…
hahahahahahaha. That’s how it all begins. I said the exact same thing.
3 months after buying a single row 84hp case, I now another 2 rows of 89hp full, with more modules sat on a shelf, and also just got a great deal on another module when I ordered the Subharmonicon, so now about to get another 6U case to replace the 3U case…the Moog will fill up the empty space for a while, but it will no doubt get filled up pretty quickly.
Just be prepared. Even with the very best intention, it can snowball very quickly. It’s super addictive.
Yeah, it´s a beauty alright! I think i actually have a little bit of a teenage crush on mine.
The look also reflects the feel. Just turn the encoders and feel the smooth but firm resistance. You don’t even need to turn the machine on to feel the quality.
On the keyboard the feel of the ribbon controller, again without power, is solid. There is absolutely no give – and yet it responds to the lightest touch with great precision. Not sure how they can do that.
The pads on the desk top feel truly amazing
Only had a couple of hours on Hydra, I have got to say that this sounds better than my Quantum… Can’t believe I only paid £799 for this synth. I absolutely have no regrets that JUKKA swayed me in to investing in this with his video posts hehe.
Thank you JUKKA
So I’ll take the rest of the weekend to figure it all out, read manual, suss how to initialise patch and maybe I’ll do a bank of sounds too. The FX are truly something else, beats FX on any hardware synth Iv’e owned. The reverb is lush. Only been through the factory sounds but they are good. Will report back Monday on how I get on. Think I need to check the OS too in case I need to update, will see manual and see what version I’m on later.
Rob
You’ll need to download the Patch Manager and the two extra free Patch banks. The Patch Manager is fairly easy to figure out. I’d recomend you make copies of all the factory patches on your computer.
Keep Protect ON until you have figured out how to write new patches to EMPTY space. Don’t worry about making long names, it’s too much of a pain. Use the Patch Manager to rename new patches later.
Factory patches are a good place to start, learning to make your own. You can either tweak them, or just look inside and create somethig similar, or randomize small sections, like Mutant 1 and see what happens.
Have fun.
Hey Jukka,
Yeah I love making patches. Iv’e done factory stuff for a few synths over the years. Pulse 2 etc. I normally like to empty/Initialise a full bank so I can roll my own but right now I’m just having fun flicking through the current ones.
It’s a great synth and now I want the keyboard version but that’ll have to wait till Christmas Iv’e spent a few grand in the past 24 hours lol
Sounds familiar! Now get in there!
Have you heard the FX on this thing Scot?
Yeah I think this thing needs a good House/Techno bank
Only in Youtube videos. I couldn’t help but be reminded of the first time I heard the old Ensoniq VFX back in 1990. It seems to share many of the same sorts of features (but obviously with much more besides - not least being better filters - and brought very much to the present day).
And I loved that old Ensoniq (I have an SD-1 32-voice). Hydrasynth seems to answer many of my wish list items. I just can’t figure out where to put it (uh oh. I might have just worked it out while typing that very sentence)
