Hydrasynth from ASM

I hadn’t realized they were still available… Perfect Circuit seems to have a few left. I just bought one lol.

I might ( ?? ) too but i’ll wait to the end of the two shows if i do, just in case.

I see the Silver Edition big keyboards are still available too.

Yup, that’s where I just ordered mine from!

TEAM ORANGE!

Still only brushed the surface with mine.

After a bit of a windfall, I treated myself to the Deluxe. Maybe I should have tried one in a shop first? It’s mahoosive!

Not even sure I’ll be able to get it into the car for gigs.

the Mod 1 and Mod 2 CV inputs.

EDIT :
I was looking at the LSK manual and these two are now clearly labelled outputs ! This is not the sort of changes you can see from the surface.

On the HS they go into audio rates, so the HS ( except for the Explorer ) has this external audio input. I love to use this for an extra external oscillator. So for instance i will plug in a Aodyo Anyma Phi with all it’s versatile modular synthesis, and use the MIDI out from the HS to control it, and then output that through the HS filters and effects.

You can also input external audio into an FM Mutant.

Fun fact: my Octatrack sits perfectly on the blank spot on the right of the Hydra Deluxe and the Octa and the Hydra loooooooove each other.

what. the. … I should really get better at reading manuals.

Can… is there a way to do a fakey Vocoder? Or if not a Vocoder, then some sort of robovoice??

They’re still labeled as ‘inputs’ on the LS front panel, and I think that’s more likely to be correct than the manual. I was not impressed with the HS manual, there were several proofreading errors and it was not that well written imho. If I was not experienced with synthesis I think I would have been very confused.

My error. They are the same as on the HS. There are Mod 1 & Mod 2 Inputs, and there are Mod 1 & Mod 2 Outputs. But the Inputs on the Leviasynth, as far as i can tell, only function through being sources into the Mod Matrix, and as being a trigger source for a variety of things.

Made a correction to the original post.

Vocoder ? No. What you can do is apply anything in the audio chain from the mixer and everything else to the right ( after it ).

Can’t you use incoming audio for FM, Ring Mod, Filter modulation…

Yes.

To be more clear, what i am talking about here is what you can do with the input as an audio source that is brought in via the Ring-Noise Module. That was what was being discussed.

That won’t function like a vocoder.

you have vowel filters. it should be the last one. that’s as close to vocoding as you can get.

Vocoder requires an array of bandpass filters, definitely not possible on the HS. But if you want robot voices, send a vocal into one of the inputs and use one of the mods (preferably the second one) to ring modulate an oscillator. Ideally loop your vocal sample and then use the oscillator controls and the first mod to mess with the electronic texture.

I do recommend playing around with the vocal/formant filter as TheRocketeer mentioned. It can get very expressive!

I’ve tried pseudo vocoder patch when I owned HSD. Very interesting textures and far more complex than traditional vocoder but it was very hard to get a proper pitch tracking

I have the orange machine, but all this leviasynth stuff has me wondering if I should snap a desktop hydra while they show up around my parts in the 550€ range used.

No interest whatsoever on the new one, but I kind of miss the 8 macro knobs on the explorer (also one at home, one in the studio, isn’t gas lovely :stuck_out_tongue: )

I have the desktop and it’s great. Having all knobs/parameters accessible makes a big difference, although I occasionally wish I had the extra arpeggiator control knobs of the keybaord. The pads are very nice to play on, even for playing tunes rather than just chords. Being able to switch them to different scales is also a big plus.

Well, just arrived! (I had it overnighted as I’m leaving town shortly.) Just unboxed about an hour ago and can’t keep my hands off of it. Zero regrets for this impulse purchase!
