The orange one looks so nice!
i only have the explorer and never used one of the others but its very imediate and fast to work woth too. the only not one knob per function synth i have and i can tweak in the same mindset
That’s my thing with the explorer. I never ever use the arpeggiator, so it seems (for my use case) a waste of four knobs on a synth that does not have many. On the other hand, I’m constantly using the up/down arrows to expose the other set of four params. This is especially annoying playing in my live jams with the band, because every preset has wildly different stuff in the 8 slots.
Since we are having this kind of discussion in the last few posts. I don’t want to increase anyone’s gas, but if anyone is on the fence for one these don’t hesitate.
The Explorer is the best mini keys available anywhere , and you get an extraordinary synth “as a bonus” on top.
i use it but would be totally happy with one button to access the settings in the screen. what i am missing most are a knobs for env and flo amount in the filter section. and more macros would be welcome of course ^.^
I would definitely say it’s worth, ah, exploring further. Not to play notes over and over if you are perfectly happy playing them yourself, but as a kind of sound effect, eg cranked to very high or low tempo and interacting with other parameters via the modulation matrix. You can make it do very weird things.
i like how it reacts to aftertouch but on mine 3 keys are stuck a very little bit and start with a click since new. do you know if thats common?
Mine plays perfectly without any sticky and clicking for 2 years
ok, should have sent it back right away when i bought it
i thought it just because its so cheap
Damn… I have the black version, but this orange one really is a looker.
Indeed. Truth is I’m only scratching the surface here, but with a live band , drummer and all, I’m very conservative with time based stuff.
Not at all, as others said.
Here is the “clockwork orange” at home in the studio:
Besides missing some extra macro controls and having to shift through more pages, when editing parameters, the Explorer’s buttons (OSC, Envelope etc.) are a bit “mushy” compared to the one’s on the other versions. I thought they felt less tactile and responsive. Anyone else with same experience?
Same when I owned an explorer and kb.
To pile on: You can modulate the ARP parameters in the modulation matrix via LFO, Keytracking, etc etc, just weird stuff. It’s the only time I’ve gotten the Hydra to crashout, putting too many conflicting modifiers to the ARP division.
Also, the arp can function as a sort of sequencer, in with mode set to ORDER, just hold the first key down the whole time and program in your sequence. (Then set an LFO to ARP length…)
Further furthermore, it’s pretty easy to use the Step LFO as a sequencer, you just hold the button of the step and hit a key to set the offset, when in SemiLock mode. (I wish it went +24 instread of +12, why the limit…)
And then you can arp that on a low division, so it’s like arps in your arps.
The new colors would match my TV. Who does HS wraps?
The improved feel keybed on the Leviasynth could be another sign. ( I hear the pads on the LSD are better now too. ( ? ) )
Oh I had no idea you could use keys. Neat!
Feel the same with the HS Desktop, there’s heaps of wasted space on the panel. All those dedicated controls for the arp, which seems a really weird decision (I have other/better arps). I also have no use for the CV inputs so that’s more space wasted, they could be on the back
Actually, both filter section and arp knobs are unnecessary imo. With a polyAT keyboard, who needs a dedicated filter knob pair if you can have all that control literally under your fingers?
Who needs keys if you have an arp?
I love Arpeggiators so I actually like it this way… just wished they had some more modes in the HS. Even the 20+ year old Virus has a lot more options…
