ASM has new technology, called a “sample map oscillator” in their new product, the Diosynth. ( thread )
The Diosynth has the Hydrasynth sound engines as well.
It is currently unknown if there is a Hydrasynth planned with this new sample oscillator, or if this might instead be part of a possible future Leviasynth. ( thread )
Rather than going too far off topic in this thread, may i suggest the Gear In Progress thread as another place to discuss future developments by ASM.
Looking at images for the two Leviasynths, with all the similarities to the Hydrasynth, and with some differences too of course, i see a pathway now for a Hydrasynth 2. Not saying it will ever happen, but it is something i can imagine now.
I love my Hydrasynth Explorer.
I don’t know what to add to this synth.
After 2 Years I still found new creative ways and sounds.
I‘still happy to see what asm will bring with the leviasynth. They make great stuff!
Btw this was the first preset pack I ever bought .
I used it a lot to reverse engineer patches and to learn this synth and this is my go to for inspiration.
That thread got shut down for a few days because of user flagging, so we should avoid arguments.
My feel is 2-part multimbral still feels a little constricted, and I am uncertain whether an analog LPF will be hype or provide real value. But I like the big screen and generous knob allocation, and I love my Hydrasynth so I will probably feel the same way about this.
I would prefer an Elektron-style key combination to generate random names, trying to think up new names is a distraction sometimes. But honestly I do not find it painful to dial in the letters on most devices, using an encoder is easy compared to buttons. Another workaround is to just give each patch a number and then rename them later in the librarian software.
That’d be nice. I’d like if chords were available on the HS desktop too, I don’t think this really requires a special button. I can see some minor updates to the HS firmware still to come. My guess is that the big new things for a HS2 would be multimbrality (perhaps x 4 with 16 poly) and perhaps more effects or a more flexible effects routing. Oh, and simpler input routing so you could just go straight through the filters and effects, this was a little confusing when I first got it.
But imho they do not need to rush, the HS is still very strong and my favorite synth for both sound and programming ‘feel’ of the last 20 years. I have had to resist temptation to buy a second one
Which might be moving the bitimbral system in the Deluxe to a more affordable configuration.
A big advantage the HSD has over the LSD, is the arrangement of the pads, that allows for the fretboard pad mode, which in some ways compensates for the lack of a chord mode.
I don’t think the audio input is so bad on the HS apart from it being missing on the Explorer and being only mono on the others. At least it has one, and the LS does not.

How about a custom INIT patch, on the HS, that is now a part of the LS.
My take on a custom INIT patch
My own workaround for that was to create a set of my own template patches. I just have to remember where i’ve stored them. So my take is i’ve got that covered already and probably wouldn’t use a custom init patch feature.
The large color touchscreen on the LS can function very similarly to the five smaller monochrome screens with the eight button above and below them on the HS, but the larger display can also provide for graphics like the gain staging display on the LS. You still can do gain staging on the HS, but that sort of display would be a nice addition to quickly analyze your patches.
There is also more room for things like the oscilloscope, etc.

One of many advantages of the HS over the LS is the flexibility with the dual filters and the mixer, and how you can reconfigure them and modify them.
After the Leviasynth announcement, I played my Hydra (Deluxe) for an hour. I think I’m happy with the Hydra.
I don’t think I’ll ever reach the end of that synth. I haven’t even begun to explore the mutants properly. I made multiple CZ-esque patches yesterday by exploring the Harmonics mutators.
Then I tried the one-note challenge, just latching one note and basically you have a modular in a box.
I really wish I had bought the orange Explorer when I had the chance.
Sooooooo…I’ve been on the fence about the orange Explorer for weeks now. Back and forth on if I should or shouldn’t get it. Your last sentence there finally pushed me over the edge. I just placed the order a few minutes ago…thank you!
