Hydrasynth from ASM

Yes, literally messing with Greek Aeolic right now and it really messes with the standard keyboard in a good way. Absolutely love it! Thanks

I’ve just ordered a Hydrasynth Desktop.

Nice! It’s gonna take you a while to create your next sample pack, then! There’s a silly number of possibilities. So much so, it’s largely killed all my GAS for anything else out there. I’m finding that all I want to do is discover all the dark/hidden corners of Hydrasynth and record, record, record

I have two packs ready to go so nl worries there. The one after that though…

I’ve been intrigued by wavetable kicks for a while now, looking forward to exploring.

So the little Explorer is a big hit so far. I’m amazed at how high-quality the build is - solid-feeling metal housing and really nice knobs. I’d say the keys are like a baby TP-9. Comes with a paper manual, too, although I wanted to see how far I could get without it. The layout of everything is really easy to understand and within minutes I was changing up the presets. Each preset has some labelled macros you can adjust, or you can easily dive into the mod matrix. I think anyone with a basic grasp of synthesis concepts is going to find this synth really intuitive to start with but there’s a ton of depth you can explore. I do get some of the feelings around the ā€˜crispiness’ of some sounds as I’m sensitive to that but I was usually able to dial things into a range I was happier with. I think the Hydra sets a pretty high bar for what a modern synth can be and I’m excited to see what else Glen Darcey and the team come up with in future. I’ve really enjoyed other products he’s been behind. It’s an incredible value for the money in my view.

I got that with some of the presets too, and like you I loathe overly digital, crispy top end. But since I’ve been starting from Init each time and following my own tastes as I start patching things, I’m just blown away by how warm and analog it can sound and the filter drive breaks up in such an awesome way. And the FX are really top draw. It’s a very special synth. I don’t (or at least haven’t yet) use the wavetable stuff either. I’m super happy using one of the 217 single cycles to create my sounds.

Thing is, the wavetable capabilities are there built in, so i use them all the time in a wide variety of subtle and passive ways, where you won’t hear it as a wave table. I’ve posted a few of those, like for instance expanding the number of stock waveforms beyond the 219 built in.

I never finish a patch with an Oscillator in Single Mode, always in Wavescan, with a set position.

More prƩcisions ? Several possibilities with TP-9 reference.

Here’s an example, of subtle use of a wavetable, of something i’ve never posted about.

What if you want to put a filter on the Oscillator, before it goes into the Mutators. You can use a small section of a Wavetable, that has waveforms that are progressively ā€œfilteredā€ versions of a base waveform.

I developed the idea from a video done by Perfect Circuit.

I’m searching more analog like examples, also curious about the drive…

I’m only just exploring the synth for the first time and I’m certainly no expert, but the three recent times examples I posted on the Current Sounds thread in the last week or so scream analog warmth and fizz to me. Honestly, if your taste is for more analog style sounds, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed with Hydrasynth when patching from scratch.

The Warm Mode and Analog Feel make things sound much nicer to my ears. I enable them on all my patches. Makes everything less digital and sterile.

More about it ? Special eq, osc drift ?

Any link ? I don’t check all threads, already too much time here ! :content:

How does analog feel?

Another thing that makes an analog synthesizer seem so ā€œaliveā€ is its inherent instability. This unpredictability is an issue not only in the tuning of the oscillators but throughout the signal path. The Analog Feel parameter allows you to dial in as much of this behavior as you like, from ā€œa little bitā€ to an amount that would summon a repair tech if you hadn’t done it on purpose.

Warm mode

Warm Mode simulates the frequency curve of a popular ā€œwarmā€ synthesizer. As you can see in the image below, it reduces the high end a bit and boosts the low end.

Like I said, all just first timer experiments

Oh and there’s this super basic one. Almost an Init patch but with Analog Feel on max. Not my chords – they’re from an Autechre track:

Keep in mind that I’m far from an expert keyboard player (but I have a lot of enthusiasm). I would say it compares reasonably well with DNKeys. The action is a little noisier with no sound playing but I liked it better than KeyStep and the Launchkey Mini.

My hydrasynth explorers delivery has been delayed by a few days. It doesn’t really inconvenience me at all. I don’t have time to mess around with it this week as I’m busy with work, and I’m using every spare moment I have on Octatrack training. In spite of all of that I’m incandescent with rage…

the very definition of pointless GAS.

Can anyone tell me what I’m doing wrong in FM-Lin mode? No matter my other settings, the Ratio parameter does nothing. I was expecting instant changes like on Digitone but I can’t work out what I’m doing wrong. I’ve tried adjusting Depth, Dry/Wet, Source and Feedback on one or many Mutants at various levels and in combination but nothing kicks my Ratio changes into life.

I’m at work right now but I can check this out later if no one has answered you yet. I think in one of the Sonicstate video with Nick and Glenn, they talk about this.
