Hydrasynth from ASM - Tips, Tricks and Queries

Could you quote what is condescending ? English is not my mother tongue. Desperately trying to express something you apparently don’t understand…I am sorry I can’t explain it better.
Trying to make fun of it, I don’t feel superior.
Nevermind. Have fun.

In case I misread you, I’d rather not dig into it. I see that someone flagged my request for civil discourse. Can that person please explain themselves.

@Holon I didn’t flagged you, sorry if I’ve been rude, not intended. Let’s forget this !
Did you understand what I meant concerning CC mapping ?

I thought you were pissed off but it turns out I misread you so no harm done between us. Hopefully we get another chance at having a fruitful chat.

Ah ! Not at all ! Well, there are many things in the world that piss me off, but I am here to forget it ! :content:
I’ll add I write 99% on a smartphone so I usually go strait to the point…

Record Hydrasynth with Octatrack.

Hi, it was me who flagged you. Not something I do usually, and I admit it was a bit of a gut reaction, but I gasped a bit and thought it was really uncomfortable how you (in writing, i might be over sensitive) kind of stomped your foot demanding changes in tone while you were clearly not taking the time to absorb the helpful information given.
You seem to have taken a breath and figured it out in the end, great and thanks for acknowledging it! Sorry if you were offended by the flag but you’re writing and asking for help in a public forum, staying humble and constructive is no. 1 in my opinion.

Thanks for letting us know. I guess my gut got vocal as well, I misread it to the point didn’t see how it could be benign. Misunderstandings suck and it’s great that we get a chance to hash it out.

is there a way to quickly revert to saved preset’s state when playing live?

Yes, press the left and the right arrow buttons in the Main System section simultaneously.

Never seen this in the documentation but it works.

I notice though this will reset the values and not the settings, that you need to touch the control, so not really what you wanted.

thanks
seems like a bug
when I short press left and right on main screen parameters reverts to saved, but sound is not changing until I touch each of them. but when I press left or right first and then the other one it seems working, but you can here the other presets for a short time

Not near my board but somehow remember this working to revert a patch on a Hydrasynth to its saved state. Hold down the Save button and press the System Setup button. This will trigger the Safe State function, restoring the patch to its last saved configuration.

Hi, I too would like to send PC from OT to Hydrasynth, but get only very unexpected results. HS reacts to SBANK, but not to the actual program change. Also I do not understand how to implement what you described - how do I actually send something before OT sends the Bank / sbank / program number configured for the current midi track is sent? What are the exact steps to do that?

Can you confirm that OT is able to flawlessly send PC to HS?

And, if I may ask for that: would you please like to describe how to implement that, e.g. if I want program no. 25 from bank E on HS, what should I do on Octatrack? The obvious configuration does not work for some reason, so I would be happy if anybody told me the precise steps how to do that.

Would be great to have a confirmation that it should work as described, so I can better understand if I have some problem with any of my hardware components.

Or is there some general problem with OT? I am confused that such a very obvious and non-sensational thing like program change triggers headaches… something must be wrong.

Thank you very much for your attention!

I just checked with a midi monitor.
I can send SBANK (CC32) before PC with a pattern change, different part. You can chain 2 patterns for tests.

The annoying thing with OT is that midi messages aren’t sent if their value is the same as last message. (except notes and sync).

Do PC work with SBANK off ?

The OT has two ways of sending MIDI Program Change (PC) messages. The first method is to send a PC message each time the active pattern on the OT changes. I assume you are using the second method, which involves selecting a value of PC in the NOTE SETUP menu of a MIDI sequencer track.

For the second method, the PC message is sent only when a pattern that is linked to the Part becomes active. Since you say that the SBNK message is being received by the HS, then your settings on the OT are probably correct. Do make sure that you press the ‘PROG’ knob or the [ENTER/YES] button in order to confirm your desired value for the PC message.

I don’t have a HS, but do ensure that you have set Pgm Chg RX to ‘On’ in page 6 of the HS’s System Setup pages.

Since my previous post in May 2020, Elektron has updated the OT to make the process more convenient by adding the SBNK parameter to the existing BANK parameter. According to the HS Owner’s manual (v2.0), page 103, both BANK and SBNK values should be set on the OT if you want to change to a patch in a different bank on the HS.

According to the information in the HS manual, set BANK to 0, set SBNK to 4, and set PROG to either 24 or 25 (depending on whether HS patch numbers start from 0 or 1).

Please try and let us know whether it works.

Hi HSK experts!

I am wondering if the Ribbon will send MIDI when it is in Theremin mode. I am trying to use it to control a VST (to see if I can), but it seems like perhaps only the Ribbon Pitch-bend function works.

Thanks in advance for entertaining the question.

Hey,
I own Hydrasynth Desktop for some months and I love it.
Is it possible to control macro with pad aftertouch ? (à la Analog Rytm)
I find this way more organic and natural than adjusting macro depth with potentiometer (even if it’s a better option in some cases). I think it’s not possible but maybe I didn’t find out.
Thanks

Yes. Macros can be destinations.

So you kept it ? I almost bought a second one yesterday but the owner finally prefered hand deliver to someone else.

I really want to have mod inputs and the 8 encoders. I am also tempted to buy an Explorer again, really like the mini keys.
