How to extract logs (macOS)

In some cases, we may ask you to extract logs from your system. This will help us figure out the culprit if you for example experience crashes or driver issues in relation to Overbridge 2.0.53 for macOS Big Sur Public Beta. We will then ask you to follow the below instructions.

Logs from Overbridge Engine, Plugins, and Control Panel

Always include logs from Overbridge. To extract these logs, please make sure logging is enabled in the Overbridge Control Panel settings. After doing this, restart the Overbridge Engine as well as any open Overbridge Plugins) and reproduce the issue. Compress the logs and attach them to your report. Here’s how to do that:

  1. Open the Overbridge Control Panel.
  2. Click on the cogwheel symbol in the upper right corner.
  3. Click on the Enable logging switch.
  4. Open the Overbridge Engine and click on the Shut down Overbridge Engine button. Also, close any open Overbridge Plugins as well as the Control Panel. Power off connected Elektron devices.
  5. Start the Overbridge Engine again, as well as relevant Plugins and Elektron devices.
  6. Reproduce the issue.
  7. Open the Overbridge Control Panel.
  8. Click on the cogwheel symbol in the upper right corner.
  9. Click on Compress logs and follow the instructions.
  10. Attach the resulting .zip file to your report. The unpacked folder includes logs from the Overbridge Engine, VST/AU Plugins, Standalone Plugins, and Control Panel.

Console Application Logs

If you experience problems in computer and device communication (USB connectivity issues, driver issues, etc.), please extract the relevant logs from the macOS Console application. Assuming you can reproduce the problem, extract the log lines from just before you started your attempt to reproduce the problem, through to when the problem occurred. Here’s how to achieve that:

  • Power off any connected Elektron devices.
  • On your Mac, click the Spotlight icon :mag: in the menu bar, or press Command + Space.
  • In the search field, type Console.app. When the search has completed, double-click the Console app to open it.
  • In the Devices list on the left, choose your Mac in the left sidebar (e.g. Davids iMac).
  • In the window to the right, click Start streaming.
  • Click the Clear button in the toolbar, or choose Action > Clear to only show new activities.
  • Power on your Elektron device/s.
  • Reproduce the Overbridge issue and the log will start filling up.
  • Copy-paste the output into a text file and attach this file to the report.

Crash Reports

macOS saves information about app crashes in ~/Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports/. If you experience issues with plugin crashes or Overbridge Engine not showing your device as “idle” or “active”, then please include all files related to Overbridge from this folder. Here is how you can access the folder:

  1. Go to Finder.
  2. Select Go from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
  3. Hold down the Option key to reveal the Library folder option in the dropdown menu.
  4. Click on the Library folder.
  5. Click the Logs folder.
  6. Click the DiagnosticReports folder.
  7. Locate files related to Overbridge (from the date the crash occurred) and attach them to your report.

Crash reports can also be found in the macOS Console application. Select your computer in the left sidebar and click Crash reports under the reports section.
