Hi, Codex and i built an Ensoniq EPS-16 Plus Emulator as a VST3 for Mac.
Hope some of you enjoy it, cheers!
Edit: This is the first release, it works fine for me but problems/bugs may occur for you. let me know in the comments, thanks!

404 error
Sorry, had the repository still on private. Should work now!
This looks fantastic, well done and thank you for sharing!
thank you ![]()
Wow, great! Thank you
Amazing Thank u! I think a video tutorial is needed though, I tried to sample into it, saw some tutorials for the hardware but had no success whatsoever ![]()
Hey! It works exactly like the Hardware. The only difference is that you have to figure out how to send audio to it’s sampling input.
Let’s say in Ableton you have a track you‘d want to sample. Just send the audio of said track to the track the emulator lives on. Once done you’ll see that there’s now the option to select the Emulators sampling input. From this point on it’s the same workflow as on the hardware.
Hope that helps!
Yes that helped a lot I managed to do it! Thank you, now I just have to learn the synth better, it’s a tough one! Thank you for making this. Another question, in order to have presets do I have to have a “floppy disk”? The rom I have does not seem to have any (The fun is making your own but it would be nice)
If you click on the “new” disk icon it will generate a disk and insert it for you to save the sound through the Sampler´s OS, if you click the Save Disk you can than save this as a hardware compatible img or hfe.
Or you do it the easy way and just save it as a preset in your daw, then it will save the complete state of the emulator to a VST3 preset that you can reuse at any time and take it from exactly where you left it ![]()
Yes, it´s a deep sampler but the basics are eas to figure out and it´s also very capable, even by today´s standards. functions like synthesize loop are unique to it and it just has a great sound.
enjoy!
Yeah the synth sounds great, Thank you that is very helpful!
I got this thing to load as a MIDI controlled FX Audio Unit in logic. I have no idea if it works properly, but here is the repo with the needed changes.
repo_diff.patch (5.4 KB)
Would you care to explain what this is? Thanks!
Sure! Logic has a hard time recognizing Audio Unit instruments with inputs; one common workaround to make an effect Audio Unit that can receive midi notes.
Actually I didn’t see your VST branch on github at first, which is why I didn’t just put it up there. So now I made a new commit to the latest beta on a fork called au-test.
Here is the built plugin in case anyone wants to try it:
I haven’t yet had time to learn how the sampler works, but it seems like everything is working.
BTW, Thank you for posting this! It’s amazing!
I am starting to get my head around this, but I cannot figure out how to load external efx such as waveboy , fm fx. The files are .hfe.
I click load on the right button menu - window pops up, click on .hfe file - then it says ‘effect download failed’ .
Also when I try to access the effect on the effects menu it goes to parallel effects and immediately says ‘effect download failed’.
How would be the right way to do it? ![]()
I´ll have to investigate, no immediate solution, sorry. I tried to load waveboy´s rezfilter and fm fx and got download failed as well. Other waveboy stuff works fine, like the audio in disk for example.
It wouldn’t even show up for me on Mac until i used sudo xattr /filepath/ in terminal but its not responding when i hit New in the disk section - I’m using a .hfe for the firmware, any ideas?
Did you find and download the needed rom and bin files? It won’t do anything without them present in the EPS_files folder.
The plugin is not Apple-notarized, so macOS may block it.
Yeah the xattr bypassed the notarisation, I have a .hfe and .img in the folder, named per the instructions on GitHub, I assume these are the issue so might try a different source for those. Anyone who may have a link, my DMs are open ![]()
I sent you a DM
Also you can find a lot of files on the Internet Archive site (waveboy etc.)
