Help! syntakt+digitone+typhon

Hi guys, i’m totally new here and in the synths planet.
i recently bought a syntakt-+digitone+typhon dreadbox.
my question is: do i 100% need a mixer to let all the sounds from these machines come out from a pair of speakers?
can’t i simply connect em all and select one of them as out source?
thanks in advace.

btw i saw couple of digital mixers just in case:
-bluebox 1010
-Elite acoustics gigmix 4-1

the Elite has 4 inputs mono and the bluebox 12 mono or 6 stereo.

what’s your take on them?
do these synths i got need to be in mono or stereo?

soz for the million questions but i’m a full blow newbie.

thanks

You don’t need a mixer for that scenario, you can connect all of them in series. For example, Typhon to the Digitone and then the Digitone to the Syntakt.

That’s one hell of a setup, by the way! :metal:

Both the Syntakt and Digitone work as two-input mixers, so you don’t need any additional gear (beyond cables) at all to get up and running. You could go either

Typhon outs -> Digitone ins ~> Digitone outs -> Syntakt ins, and monitor from the Syntakt

Or

Typhon outs -> Syntakt ins -> Syntakt outs -> Digitone ins, and monitor from the Digitone

Both Elektrons have the ability to apply their own effects to the inputs, so it’s worth figuring out if.how you want to apply them to whatever is coming through.

I would strongly recommend reading the manuals, at least around how the external inputs work, and how to set up the master page to apply the mix.

Additionally, if you don’t know already, you will want to hook your gear together via MIDI, so that you can press play on one to set all three running. I am unfamiliar with the Typhon’s internal sequencer, but both Elektrons also have really powerful abilities to sequence other gear, so you should also consider sequencing the Typhon with one of them.

You totally have an instantly deep and comprehensive music-making setup between those three instruments. Hope you have fun with them!

thanks indeed guys. it’s just because it would be impossible for me to be creative if i use each machine separately. i’ve been playing years in bands and the best ideas comes jamming all together in a rehearsal studio.
so that’s my idea… jam…come out with some good tunes and record em in logic separating the machines in order to mix em properly.

so i basically need 2 midi cables and that’s it right?
and how to i internally set them?

once again thanks a lot, your help is helping me a lot

Welcome. I have Octatrack, Syntakt and Typhon.

As you can use Digitone midi tracks to sequence Typhon I’d set it as master (other possibilities).

Digitone : MIDI CONFIG > SYNC : check transport and clock (prog change*) send

Syntakt : MIDI CONFIG > SYNC : check transport and clock (prog change*) receive

*if you want to sync patterns changes, you need to send/receive Program Changes. Channels have to correspond.

Midi cables
DN out > ST in
ST thru > Typhon in
(Thru = what comes in)

Use a Digitone midi track to sequence Typhon on corresponding midi channel.

so i ll let the total sound come out feom the digitone right?

If you wish, check above answers. Midi and audio routing is not related.

oh ok.
i’ll try this setup then.
right now i’m tryna connect the typhon to the syntakt.
i set the syntakt as receiver and in the options of the typhon what do you reckon i should do?
soz for these mega basic question but it’s rocket science for me

If you want to sync Typhon modulations and fx, you can set it to receive ST clock. (Set ST to send clock in SYNC page).

i actually connected te takt with the typhon and it works but the only sound it comes out is just a kick

How did you plug it ?

There is also Digitakt, so the short name is ST for Syntakt (DT for Digitakt, DN for Digitone).

i set syntakt as receiver and typhon as sender.speakers on syntakt… only drums comes out… bpm are perfectly sync.

viceversa i did syntakt as sender and typhon as receiver, speakers on typhon, perfectly sync but sll i can hear is typhon riff

Internet connection problems for me ! :content:

Audio or midi receiver ? I guess it’s audio.
With that configuration (Typhon LR OUT plugged in ST Inputs), did you set Ext In level in 3rd Mixer page ? (FUNC + LFO).

mhhh good question😂
all i did is:
1.cable from st midi out to typhon midi in
2.st midi config/sync/clock and transport receive
3.typhon global setting/midi channel/input all
4.typhon global setting/master clock receive/external

speakers are connected to the typhon and i cannot hear anything

If you want the Syntakt to sequence or trigger the Typhon you need to change the ST midi/sync/clock to Send.

And you don’t have any audio cables coming out of the ST, so you won’t hear that at all unless you’re using the headphones out.

Something plugged in headphones output.

@lucapro, if you want to hear Typhon and ST, you have to plug Typhon LR OUT in ST INPUTS.

Then set Ext In in MIXER (Func + LFO button).

Oh yes.

Another option I don’t see mentioned, all of them have audio and midi over usb. You could connect them all to a laptop and use that as a mixer/midi router/patch panel.

tbh i prefer to use them without laptop.
ah i get it, so i need two more extra cable to connect the typhon outputs with the st inputs.
(in the pix there’s nothing plugged in the headphones…it’s just a converter :joy:)

Yes you need 1/4 inch cables to connect the audio.

Check out pages 76-77 of the manual. Really strongly recommend checking it out! Lots of answers to your questions will be there.

Also check out YouTube tutorials for setting up Digi boxes with external hardware (most of the same principles apply between the DT, ST, and DN).

This one may help get you going:
