It’s no secret to all of you that I love my Quadraverb. Just to be clear though, I fucking love my Quadraverb.
Problem is, the old girl is a bit big for my rucksack and I’m finding myself a reverb short for live performances. So what I really need is a tiny Quadraverb.
What’s out there that sounds like a Quadraverb but is teeny tiny small enough to fit in my bag?
What I’m after, more specifically, is a reverb pedal (I hate pedals) that does a nice old school couple of rooms, halls etc, has some sort of tone control or low cut and that crunches up a bit nice when driven hard. I’ll mostly be using it on synths but it’ll want to be as happy on a send as it is as an insert, so easy access to dry/wet and effect level adjustment is important.
What I’m really not after is a shimmering, infinite pile of look at me that wants to ruin my mix and make my friends think that I think I’m cooler than them.
Things I’ve already discounted are as follows:
-Anything by Strymon or Eventide
-Midiverbs
-Anything that isn’t stereo in and out
-Zoom MS70 or the other one.
-Vermona Retroverb (too big)
Budget is probably around £400, but cheaper is always better.
Sorry for another reverb thread, but I’ve done my best to be specific.
BAM is great, probably the best choice possible.
Something in my opinion underrated is an alesis microverb I or II. Surely it lacks of tone control, but it often comes cheap as hell, handy as heck, is built like a tank, does have some character and a crunchy input if nicely overdriven
my go to ‘just throw it in the backpack’ effect unit, as i often find myself pleased by one of the 16 rooms
Yeah, kinda discounted the microverb for the lack of controls. It does sound really great, but I want to have more control over it than it would allow me.
IN GAIN
In Gain. Sets the analog input gain of the reverb from 0 dB to +15 dB. Due to the built-in diode clipper, increasing gain can add a nice character to the reverb signal.
I was going to say Midiverb 1 or Microverb 1, then I read the rest of your post
The Wedge is actually pretty dope. Very similar to the QV2. Hainbach swears by it.
Also other pedals like Specular Tempus or Mercury 7, but I’m sure you already know all about those. The Caroline Meteore is a neat lo-fi unit, but mono and still a pedal.
Also… Retroverb Lancet? Still mono though.
An outside (or inside) the box idea: Erbe-Verb in a 4MS Pod 20X powered case. Or a 28X case for some added LFO’s and I/O. It definitely does some crazy shit.
Have you given the Death By Audio Rooms a look? I’ve never used a Quadraverb, but used to fuck around with the Midiverb. Its got lots of very useful settings that can be pushed into quite extreme territory. You can push the output of the pedal to volumes far beyond what most anybody should really need also. The stereo field on this thing is downright massive also.
I do really like the look of the DBA stuff, but there’s always that worry with pedals that they’re going to struggle a bit with line level and I’m gonna need to fuck with extra gear to get them right.
I’ll definitely look at it though, cheers for the advice.
I’ve heard that from others, but haven’t had much of an issue with it myself. I’ve personally never had a reverb pedal that was meant for line level signals, so my point of comparison may be a little different. I run a DFAM and the Lyra 8 through it regularly and it takes em like a champ. It will clip and distort a little, but I find it personally to be a part of its character. Totally makes sense that others have different needs around it though
