Glastonbury 2025

I’m not there, but I’m really enjoying the BBC coverage on my Sonos soundbar and new 65” LG OLED TV.

Highlights for me so far:

  • CMAT and the sexy CMAT Band. They were just a joy. Really fun performance with some great songs.
  • Lola Young. Boy can that girl sing and some of the bass lines in those tracks are huge.
  • Floating points. Interestingly, the part I loved of their show was the crazy visuals. With two ladies running a science experiment, in time with the music and filming it via a microscope on the big screen.
  • Four Tet. Only a DJ set. But he does it so well, and weaves an inspired track listing across his performance. Actually inspires me to get back into DJ’ing.

I became fixated in the visuals and it almost became a distraction from the music. I’m not sure if that’s a good thing but it felt like the music was the backdrop to the visuals. Maybe that was the intention though

Edit: in the floating points set

did he play any Ae on BBC?

Ae?

Yes. Exactly the same experience for us. Once we’d worked out what was going on with the visuals, we didn’t take any notice of the music!

But before that my wife said the set was boring, so maybe the idea was a musical backdrop.

I only saw half the set and could not figure out what was going on there!

I assumed that the visuals stopped working for most of the set , but they kicked back in near the end … I think it’s just the one woman doing the visuals based on her Instagram .

Otherwise he seemed to work hard but I felt it was a bit flat - especially the audio seemed to lack bass.
Perhaps for another time but - he’s obviously doing stuff with his gear but audibly - what the audience could hear - I think it could’ve been a dj set

I appreciate I’m just a bloke who’s never released anything … he’s traveled the world doing music … what do I know

I don’t usually watch Glastonbury and this years line up looked pretty weak to me (having that Scottish kid as special surprise guest says it all). However, when flicking the channels I did catch the set of a band called Wunderhorse. I thought they were great, full of energy and 90s nostalgia. I gave their albums a listen today and I enjoyed it. I always feel great when I discover some new music I like.

I’m a big fan of both Floating Points and Four Tet. Listen to them a lot, buy their records, watch interviews, etc.

They did a DJ show here a few years ago where they traded off. I left early out of boredom. Just not my thing.

Much of Glastonbury dance wise is nowhere near the main stages … many of the dance tents feature big artists doing live and dj sets , they’ll never be broadcast on bbc.

Modeselektor, paranoid London , sub focus , blawan, leftfield, goldie, the orb. Max cooper, a guy called Gerald, altern-8 are just a few playing in various tents

I haven’t got a telly (one of the things i miss is Glastonbury BBC) but I’d like to see
Amyl and the Sniffers.

Just discovered them yesterday and they are worth a watch.

It’s all on iPlayer - no tv needed

Except for that one set you had to watch on some woman called Helen’s TikTok

It’ll be on iPlayer later … they’re just not airing it live
Their film was good fun ( for those that have no idea what we’re talking about - it’s Kneecap)

Hopefully it’s not edited loads. Looking forward to it

Deftones pulled out from their second show tonight. I’m in London to see them tomorrow so hope they’re feeling better for that!

Have they announced a new album yet? Ohms was my album of 2020.

Yeah but of a shame that. Tuned in for a bit of heaviness and saw they’d gone from the bill. They already played a warm up date so I wonder if it’s the old switcheroo of lose the festival to keep the headliner. Hope so because they don’t play here that much.
