Well, after thirty minutes playing with mine noodling away with an OP1F into it, I can conclude that (1) it makes very beautiful noises (2) the complexity and depth of the thing may end up being slightly excessive and I will probably never use half of what is there, but (3) it does make very beautiful noises.
I get the point of it pretty much. But so far most of what I’m achieving seems more like happy accident than anything else. The subtle eccentric modulation is fantastic and makes stuff sound much better than it should. But as to having a clue what is really going on, or achieving anything tangible from twiddling the. knobs?
To be honest so far most of the controls appear to only do subtle stuff subtly. But maybe that’s just me. I am nowhere near at the moment and am going to actually have to work hard to work this one out. Perhaps now to try some more percussive phrases to see what they help create. It’s definitely interesting.
As yet the serial number is not appropriate to the sounds coming out of it. But give me time

Mines on the way. Read through the manual last night and it’s not light reading!
I do know that I want to simply run my 606 and voice into mine though, so that will give it some framework. I’ve been so minimal with my gear setup though recently that the thought of mixers, cables, send and returns etc on top of the complexity of thing is giving me slight anxiety before I even get hold of mine.

OK now I’m getting somewhere. Rather obviously phrases that have a bit of dynamic to them are rather more dynamic than ones that don’t. Getting madder and madder now. In a good mad way!
And being aware of the three layers makes a bit of a difference. Was struggling for a while on a sound until I realised I had pushed the stretch to 99 on the red layer. But clearly had then forgotten and couldn’t work out why there was no coherency to anything I was doing in the other layers. Bah!
Edit: Yes, having cracked it, this is a truly deranged creation. Utterly ridiculous. Like a vocoder from outer space.

I just saw this thread and based on name alone I’m disappointed it’s not a wind instrument machined from a solid block of steel with a flamethrower on the end.

Oh, enjoying this! Still no idea what I’m doing, but I’ve now just read over the manual so going to try rerouting stuff and have another go. But this is running my 606 into it with me murmuring some voice into the built in mic.

captured the same 606 drum loop into the pedal as the modulator this time, then latched a chord on my polysynth, does that gated vocoder thing nicely.

I started trying stuff the other day but I was struggling to get anything nice-sounding out of it. I think I need to understand better the controls. It’s a pedal for synths all the way, though, definitely hard to play with it if you are playing guitar at the same time

Or flip it on its head. Record the guitar into it as modulator/loop, then you’ve got your hands free!
I’ll add, vocoder/sound against sound stuff is very hit or miss. I’ve explored a lot of morphing type things in software where one sound is imposed on another and sometimes just playing around finds happy accidents. But the best stuff I’ve done is where maybe one of the elements is fairly static and constrained/simple, like a drum loop, or voice phrase repeating, or just a drone texture. If both sources are a bit organic/chaotic, it can get messy not in such a great way. Basically start off super simple. Just drone a chord or have a kick/snare beat or interesting rhythm.
If you want to stay within synth domain, try a nice simple plucky arpeggio and mix that with a more ambient pad, and it should blend nicely between them.

This thing is nuts. There are moments when it’s absolutely brilliant and other moments where I’m not sure what’s happening or why.
It’ll be interesting to see what updates, if any, this gets one day. I do think this is a love it (or potentially love it) or hate it thing.
Well, to be more accurate, I don’t see many people feeling apathetic about it.

Hello all, just got a RECODER with last June second batch.
I have a question for who has one: does the REC OUT have only the wet signal? On my unit (and apparently happens with others too) it doesn’t. It outputs the dry/wet blend. Which annoys me quite a bit.
I really would like to have only the generated signal…
