FromSoftware Games Thread

Yeah, I looked at the farming as sort of an alternate to providing difficulty level options so a casual like myself would have a point of entry to the last third of the game and a way to get powered enough to complete the thing.

Being so inexperienced, I’m not totally sure I fully grasp ā€œfarmingā€ as it’s being discussed. I’m assuming it involves finding/respawning dense numbers of weaklings to kill for runes?

If so, it’s almost unavoidable as visiting the little campfires respawn everything you kill and retracing steps is also pretty fundamental to gameplay.

I don’t feel a need to stay in one spot doing this excessively—yet. Can’t imagine it being very fun vs just accomplishing the same on the way to exploring the map. So far, Danger is everywhere but I haven’t found it hard to avoid either—yet.lol

In life, aren’t we all trying to make ourselves smarter, stronger, more fit etc to meet increasingly greater challenges on the way to achieving our ultimate goals?

Aren’t we all guilty of farming in one way or another to accomplish this? I be all over this forum, farming like a mf. Haha.

I might just become the Farming King at some point. That big ass dragon not far from the church looks like a rough time. I have no clue when I’ll be strong enough to feel comfy picking a fight with him. If ever. :weary:

I don’t want to be farm shamed if it comes to that. A bruv just tryna survive out here in these Elden streets lol.

It’s definitely built in to the gameplay but there are also a couple of spots that specifically have
a bunch of high rune creatures that can be knocked off relatively quick. Along with the normal regenerating trolls and other bigger creatures (that are very good to practice on), there are two specific locations, one relatively early on but still probably a ways off from where you are at and one later in the game that can be very helpful to ā€œfarmā€ over and over again by killing everything in the area and going to a nearby site of grace to rinse and repeat.

Just realized how tough it is to NOT accidentally spoil the experience for others by describing a simple experience at a specific location. My bad. Deleted.

BTW, thanks to the thread for being spoiler free from what I read :pray:t4:

There are two good spots for farming (both in the same region and you can get there easily once you get Torrent (one really good for the first 50 levels that involves no fighting) and one that involves fighting the specific enemy is rather easy it’s just that you’re going to a spot where you shouldn’t be so they can pretty easily one shot you but each one killed provides a good clip of runes and you can mostly fight them one on one. You don’t need to farm ever really, if you’re going around collecting all the items and doing reg fighting here and there you will easily get to a good level. I think if i remember 150 is a good ending pt.

I farmed but that is because I am a little obsessed nerd that likes to buy each unique item from all the merchants.

I mean im not wrong hahaha.

Epic!

I am too dumb to ever get any idea of what is going on in any of the souls games. does it look good? yes it does very much so.

While playing Elden Ring I came to the realization that the confusion, wonder, and the sense of ā€œwhat the hell is going on here?ā€ may be part of the point!

For me it is the difficulty and mechanics I enjoy, FromSoft just absolutely get it, I’ve played a few of the other big ā€œsouls likeā€ games Remnant 1 & 2, The Surge 1&2, Lords of the Fallen, Mortal Shell, Nioh 1, Lies of P etc. And nothing has the movement (dodge mechanics etc) that FromSoft have (Lies of P is very close). 2nd thing I enjoy is the Atmosphere and then Music. No one else does it like FromSoft.

Haven’t read the whole thread, but was keeping an eye on it (thinking ā€œa-ha, they are suffering along with meā€).
I started my FromSoft journey just before the pandemia in the end of 2019. Have beaten several times DS3, DS1 on PC, Bloodborne on PS4 and currently somewhere near the final of the Elden Ring. Well. Sometimes I think that the next revolutionary game mechanics by FromSoft would be just a giant anvil endlessly smashing a player from the skies.

This would be much more fair and less painful game experience

Biggest complaint about Elden Ring so far (from a person who managed once to beat Orphan of Kos without summons, etc): most levels are so polluted with hard enemies that it becomes pointless and absolutely no fun. While in DS3 or BB you had like 10-15 big challenges per arena, Elden Ring offers you 40 or 100. Enemies are harder and there are way too many of them per area, killing all the fun. Gameplay becomes a mundane dodging, spamming with projectiles, cheesing, luring, riding, etc.

Elden Ring imo is too big, it just is and that leads to the problem you mentioned especially about the legacy dungeons they are so polluted it can be tough to navigate. Also they recycled so much to fluff the size of this game (minor caves and dungeons all kinda end up looking the same) lot of recycled enemies turned bosses lot of the same bosses. But I still love it very much.

I am so happy from exists.

skimming through the thread, mildly disappointed I donts see banging about the armored core 6, on a music dedicated forum.

the soundtrack alone is bonkers.
it conjures such incredible atmosphere, echoes of carpenter, nin, or even boards of canada TH if you will, the atmoshepric ones:

straight up bangers, synth riffs ripping through while you are blasting mech with everything you got:

the liberal use of distortion and reverb really made me think of analog four, constantly.

game hard af ofcorse.

one of the from incredible aspects is the environmental storytelling. the games give you hints and intrigues you, but only when you dive into the lore and community do you begin piecing the story.
this is by design.

where other games lose the magic once you begin looking outside of the game for info, with from the mythology expands and deepens.
its incredible actually.

you realize nothing, literally, is happenstance. its all meaningful.
