I know the Internet Archive has been mentioned before…

But here is an update of an expanded collection of old '78s added to the archive…

See here for general 78 collections…: https://archive.org/details/78rpm&tab=collection

And here for details of the Great 78 Project: https://great78.archive.org/

And here for Project specific recordings: https://archive.org/details/georgeblood

Forgive me if mentioned before, but Glitchmachines has a lot of interesting free samples for download here: https://glitchmachines.com/products/free-bundle/

This is an unbelievably awesome thread. I am crazy grateful for everybody contributing to it! My favorite websites to sample from are already listed here, so I don’t have much to contribute, but I’ll list the ways that I’ve been sampling and maybe one of them will spark some creativity in someone else looking for sample sources.

  1. Vinyl - this is the primary reason that I got my digitakt. I’ve spent my first few months with it strictly sampling vinyl, and learning how to utilize my mixer in the best way possible to correspond with the digitakt processing. Bonus points for using tap tempo to lock in Loop length for recorded audio, and also adjusting Loop length to beat match against turntables.

  2. Zoom recorder - though I haven’t recorded nearly as much found sound as I intend to, the zoom has been great for capturing instruments I have around my house. Super useful when creating sample chains. Bonus points for using it as a resampling device, running audio from it into the digitakt, processing it, running it back out to the zoom, rinse and repeat. It has also gotten me to learn mixing technique on the digitakt, so I can dump a basically finished project back on to the zoom. I love my computer free set up - no hassle, no updates. Well, except for the digitakt.

  3. 4 track cassette recorder - the first step was to record material onto the four track. Once all tracks are full, record the output of The Four Track back into the digitakt. Bonus points for playing The Four Track like an instrument - use faders the same way you would use organ drawbars, adjust the speed and Pitch control, and mess around with flipping the tape over to get some neat reversed effects. Even more bonus points for doing those same steps on the digitakt after the audio is dumped. Tape saturation. . . Mmmmmmmm.

  4. Instruments - good God I love the way instruments sound plugged into the digitakt. They sound even better with a little pre-processing, but they don’t need much. I’m having the most fun running a bass into it to play along with my Beats. Bonus points for homemade instruments.

This is been a crazy wall of text, and for that I apologize. It’s so much fun to compare notes about the digitakt - and once again I have to give a big shout-out to this community for being so helpful and informative. Good looks!

Im really late here.
At least I hope I have something good.

A truly amazing latest app if you have an iPhone/iPad is Fractal Bits.

Really fun to work with on your free time,it’s rumored to be able to create 4 billion sounds(though in fact many are pitch variations)and it gives an excellent sound outcome as well.

Edit:It is also fully MIDI controlled.

Not really. There are some packs here and there for sale. But I think depending on what you want you might have to collab with a vocalist or just really dig deep in the record bins.

check tracklib.com there is some cool song to samples.

@brianmichel on op-forums posted the following address:

I really like the way large numbers of samples are presented for browsing.

I always like the idea of ripping the audio from movies and tv shows but time is precious and I’m also lazy :joy_cat:

I stumbled across this today. Hope someone finds some good sample fodder!

Just listened to about fifty minutes of Artificial Intelligence (2001) while driving. I’m now back at the crib about to cop some samples. Thanks for the link.

Sampling from movies is actually not necessarily that time-consuming a process, I found.

Softwares like ffmpeg can extract audio (given you have downloaded the movie file of course) so that you can work in your DAW and directly butcher the waveform.
Bonus added: you can see the waveform, which gives hints on what is going on. You can put colors for dialogue vs special FX vs OST. Plus you can come back later and finish the job.
Quit the idea of retrieving every little interesting pieces. Random picks can be good.
It can be an interesting idea to have a little Moleskine at your side to take some notes while watching a movie or series…

And that notepad idea just changed the game.
