Hi!
Seeing recent introduction of PERFORM KIT fuctionality on DT2, i was thinking about alternative solution that could be possible for Digitone (OG)). I don’t know how relevant or useful it will be for Elektron team or fellow Elektronauts but i decided to share it anyway
Solution is based around SONG MODE - adding new row into song mode called SOUND CHAIN ROW. it will work in the same way as ROW MUTE - popup screen and 4 track selector - per row in a song
Defalut state (unlit track) - regular state
Sound-chain (lit track) - means that when playhead hit selected row, selected track will inherit SOUND from the same track of previously played row - overwriting original track’s sound - creating seamless sound transition
(Optionaly) In the same SOUND CHAIN popup screen - on the right side (where MIDI MUTE’s are) there might be single checkbox - SCHEDULE PATTERN RELOAD - doing just that, reloading pattern to a saved state when playhead hits selected row.
Some pro’s:
No new entities added - no kits, no local/global sounds
No pointers and indirect pattern changes - every pattern has it’s own sounds saved along a pattern - staying true to original data structure of Digi machines
Relatively robust - works only in SONG MODE and have to be explicitly turned on, sound chaining happens in real time when playing the song
Opportunity for clever song engineering - different combinations of soundchained and original track sounds on different rows and rigged pattern reloads
Ability of seamless transitions between patterns - impossible on current DN
Con’s:
Not real KIT - you cannot change sounds in patterns in a batch, cannot use KITs as templates
Possible hardware limitations
EDIT: Feature request to avoid confusion, and some typos
