Everything Is Everything Now

Please avoid flagging this, it’s a genuine post, and is not offensive, I’m simply pointing out quite reasonably (and in reponse to some posts above about pedophiles):

Not everyone who uses the internet is using it for harm. Some use it to help.

As with AI.

As with vibe-coding.

There’s no need to bring that topic up (I didn’t bring it up, it started upthread), to try and support your arguments for or against any other topic.

It reminds me of politicians conducting ‘smear campaigns’, a cheap and dirty tactic.

Would be far better for all, to encourage meaningful discussion on the topic.

Thank you.

If you see - we had internet before mobile internet - and with the additon of the mobile aspect it has totally redrawn the lanscape - just because it had the mobile tag added to it. We didnt expect it to change the behaviour or usage so much.

But its a completly different world we live in, with just moving a capablity to browse the internet to a mobile device.

It made GPS tablets completly redundant for example. (Its just a single example, but it has many more.)

Totally agree with you. All our stories are old - we just recombine them in new ways. (Drama Theory.)

what i find odd in this current vibe coding climate, is that people who think AI songs is stealing from music creators, are overjoyed by vibe coded FW´s of their favorite gear. like it is´nt the same thing

The art of electrical engineering we studied back then, and then the engineering moved to a different country , because it was cheaper to produce there.

Nobody cared for my job or art i created - the intrest was saving money and having less regulations.

The so honest companys with their morale ethics  - if that would be the case we wouldnt have the enviorment were living in.

This whole AI hype would be very much contained if the society wasn’t as digitalised as it is today.
In my childhood folks who spent their days glued to screens were a minority and were called nerds and whatnot. Nowadays it’s the average behaviour.

that´s true as well. the mass induced hype train which is the stock market is largely to blame for jobs shipping oversea´s. if there wasnt a need for constant growth and gains and corporations would just settle with “just” making profit. Then corporations would be more concerned with keeping “the talent” rather then finding new ways of exploiting them.

It isn’t. They bought the instrument, they didn’t get AI to fabricate a hardware copy, then steal the firmware to modify, then sell the product as their own.

You could make a similar argument that all those people complaining about capitalism, and barriers to entry, and gatekeeping should be rejoicing that AI has come along - but again, it isn’t that simple is ot?

Sampling music and distributing it is illegal without consent.

If you put idea licensing into place - the society will fail sooner than later.

It isnt sampling, if i play the same melody. Somebody else played. Intelectual property can harm a society to.

Warner brothers invented a story system, where the villan learned about the hero character.

Its a good idea, but now nobody can do a similar system without their consent. Is that fair for the market?

Is it fair that the richtest person can now buy all intellectual property and claim it their own?

What are you even talking about?

Guy used sampling records as an analogy, it’s illegal to distribute sampled music without permission. Right or wrong.

I am talking about clean room reeimplementation of an idea.

If i play some tune, somebody else played on a different instrument -is it fair that he licences the note sequence?

How far should that go? Is math now owned by the richtest person on the planet?

I said sampled, you are looking for an argument out of nothing. Come to think of it, that’s what this whole thread is, isn’t it?

Yes, and look at that as an example, remember the discussion around it in its infancy, before sample clearance became a thing? Left wing press were all in favour of it, right wing press were calling it theft. Even today, right here on this forum and all over the internet you hear tons of tracks with samples from records - everyone going to stop doing that?

Oh shit! So your analogy was a broader context!

You’re saying the sampling conversation is just as tired and worn out as the AI conversation!

Couldn’t agree more, bro!

I’d rather be Roger Lynn’s bitch than Elon Musk’s.

Not really, it’s not a 1:1 comparison at all.

But I agree that it seems to be pointlessly polarising, and that some people just love to argue for the sake of it.

Would be nice if we could all agree… AI has the potential for help and for harm. Intent is everything.

If I see a person hit by a car, I’m not gonna say “I don’t completely agree with the use of mobiles”, I’m gonna whip my phone out and call them an ambulance.

Same, I expect any sane person here, in the event of their loved-ones needing a life-saving medical treatment, ain’t gonna refuse said treatment because the use of AI helped develop it.

yeah but if the people in control had a shred of humanity in them they would pull the plug until they can stop the CSAM but they actually dont care about that or wont admit that they dont know how to turn off the CSAM machine they made.

pretty ugly and gross! its not a smear if its just true. then its just facts you dont like to hear.

My (least) favorite part of this thread is that when the people actually doing the thing many of us on this forum feel is incredible (DIY/ self-started diy instruments/ boutique instruments) speak up on the topic in a way that is not completely affirming of the hacking, you all mostly ignore them and barely interact because it’s inconvenient to the narratives you’ve woven about the topic. Prime example: Trash80, developer of the Dirtywave m8’s post earlier in the thread.

You don’t interact when people rightfully call out the growing bug reports and feature requests for some of the firmwares and wonder how long support will last (I know some firmware hackers are making good-faith efforts to support). You don’t interact when people call out the bad-faith actors who have or are charging for their hacked firmwares.

I can’t help noticing that those questioning whether this is actually a good thing are reacting to the thing that’s actually happening while those who are fully on board with it are working out of an idealized, self-romanticizing mindset.
